2012 Oxycodone 30mg Shortage In Florida (Page 39)

My spouse, who is in severe, chronic pain, has been a customer of Walgreens for many years. We live in Pinellas County, Florida. Everyday this week we have driven from Walgreen's to Walgreen's trying to fill his prescription for Roxicodone 30mg, to no avail. I cannot get any help from his regular pharmacy. I know that it's dangerous for them to tell a total stranger which store has them in stock, but I don't understand since they know him, why they can't call around or give us any assistance. I am at a total loss as to what to do & would appreciate any information that you could provide. It is so hard to see him in so much pain. Thank you.

holly, now your fishing...pharmacy techs making money on the side...you have a better chance of seeing God. with all the cameras and only 1 pharmacist at once responsible for all c2 rx's, theres no way thats going on. they get them from robbing the distribution centers, etc and then market them onto the streets. all the people who use to get them dont anymore so 90% of oxies off streets today are from organized crime and blackmarket roxies. there not legit people selling anymore...mostly.

For those with insurance. Do not be afraid to use your mail order program! These RX's must be mailed in, but I can guarantee you they are always in stock. Having worked for the largest pharmacy benefit manager / mail order pharmacy, I dealt with people having trouble all the time.

As a mail order pharmacy we were able to keep insane amounts (that would blow your mind) on hand and I only recall us ever running out once, for 2 days. Try it, its worth it if you are really in need. If you find constant issues with local fills, work with your doctor and inform them you are using mail order. This way they may assist you by giving you the prescription early enough to get it in time through the mail. (Keep in mind that a mail order pharmacy can also fill sooner than a local pharmacy to account for transit time.)

@ roro thank you for sharing your struggle with the stigma of people judging us bc we need medication. I don't care what people think, I'm more afraid of being robbed if anyone knows I have this medication. I told my spouse to back off, and if he says another negative thing about my need for medication, I'm gone. I hate the fact I need this medication to live a functional life. It's a last resort, and not something I'm happy about. I've been doing a lot of thinking, and if this is how he feels, and continues to say horrible things, he's not the man I loved and I question his love for me. I'm done letting people put me down and pass judgement. It bothers me I had to switch to opana, which makes me feel like crap. Tired of being lethargic, don't feel right driving, and still have pain. I won't take med if I have to drive. It's wrong, I know I've changed since I've been unable to attain roxycodone. They're playing with peoples quality of life and it's so wrong. Our basic right of being able to control pain is being violated by taking away a medication that helped us all so much. I know most of you are going through the same thing, and I feel empathy for you. I dont think this med will be available anytime in the future. peace and blessings

Holly, I'm from Fort Laud where I used to get my scripts filled every month for 8 yrs. I moved a yr ago to west coast. I've always gone to the CVS on Atlantic to get them. The Pharmacist is an ass but I've actually called Corporate in front of him when he tried to deny me. Try that approach, it works. The only thing is this, they will only fill if your Dr is not black-balled, and you are prescribed a long- acting script at same time. Let me know how u make out. If u live there, ur probably seeing my old Dr. :).

@Disabled999, i;m scared of going, i havent tried anywhere since since last week! this whole thing is giving me ptsd, what did you say to him? did you call corporate hdquarters in front of him? My doc isnt blacklisted, I just keep getting the same "we dont have them , we cannot order them " and i feel about an inch tall. is it true they dont have them and cant order them?

Search cvs and roxycodone on net, a lot of them got in trouble for dispensing too many. The distribution center in Sanford fl was shut down. There are more than 1 reason why they're unavailable. You can call corporate in front of them, they don't care. The bottom line is too many drs writing too many scripts for roxycodone, then they're many are sold on streets, and it's the drug of choice for the junkies and dealers. People are dying everyday in this state, and it's mostly from roxycodone or oxycontin. Like I said, research it and you'll know what's going on here in this sickening state.

has anyone tried the walmart mail order pharmacy? would they do it? i learned that cvs and walgreen no longer will do mail order for sched. 2, let me know if you've tried any mail order lately, that was able to fill in florida, without insurance... thanks holly

mike, it;s just strange that i know a girl who knows a phramacist at walgreens, and she never has problems getting them, so, i may be fishing, or paranoid, but if they are only dispensing to friends, that sux!

The problem is your going in and asking if they have them or not. Even if you have script in hand and they have them in stock, they are going to tell you no. It is their policy. To them you are just pharmacy "hopping" or " shopping". Next time just walk up to the drop off counter, hand them your script, and whatever info they need from you. Be prepared to wait 30 -45 minutes. Its not rocket science.. its the fact that peoples eagerness to get them filled and their questions on whether they have them in stock( if you look at it from their perspective) makes them nervous especially with all the robberies. What if someone is standing around waiting to hear them say "yeah we have plenty in stock!" Then they pull out the pistol....

they should be able to order it after speaking to your Dr..But a lot af pharmacies dont want to stock it because they think they will end up with alot of drug addics around. The wrong clientele..pisses me off. Thank God I dont have that problem anymore. I go to the same place every month for the last couple years but if they happen to be out. I either have to wait or go through the same crap.

Every pharmacy also has a non- narcotic and narcotic ratio that has to be followed. When they get a shipment in of any narcotic, they have to also purchase a lot of non narcotic meds or else they'll be flagged and dea will come in and warn them or shut them down. My Dr explained this himself to me a few months ago, and I've also read about it online. This is how bad the situation is here in FL. I read 1 pain clinic was shut down, and this Dr prescribed more roxycodone in a year than in the whole state of CA last year. I really believe a lot of these quacks in FL go into pain mgt, and are too free with the rx pad. This causes us legit cpp to pay dearly. I have a family member up north who has a severe back injury , and they get 90 15mg roxycodone a month, won't write for anymore than that. It's coming that only terminally ill patient will be able to fill for high quantities of c2's. God bless and happy Thanksgiving

Unfortunately the situation isnt getting better just yet and the people suffering like me, well sorry brothers and sisters were going to suffer. unless you can get lucky with not only a doctor but a willing local pharmacist too...all i can say is good luck and happy turkey day. this situation sucks...

i tried with my local private pharm, she used to fill for me applying discount card savings, and then when they shut down the distrib, center she claims she cant order them anymore, then, i was sooo pissed at the price gougers at the hospital he was giving me a hard time about going to other pharmacies and he said "is there a reason you are going to other pharmacies, i see you went to discountpharm last month, i said "yes, there is a reason, i have the right as a consumer to shop for the best price, and if you can match her prices i will get everything filled here" this arrrognat guy had the nerve to lie to me and say that it is against the law and you have to go only to one pharmacy & gave me a card urging me to go to their partner pain mgmt doctor ( i guess they wanna keep the $ in the familY ) SO, i got doc to split rx to 15s and 30s, i figured 15s would be half the price, WRONG! theyy charge a dollar more per pill for 15s,,, jerks, OH, then they caught up with the trend of ppl switching to dialaudid 8 mg, which normally is under 100 for each rx, they altered their price to be the same as getting 30 mg oxycodone! there should be a law, Since all this is going on,( i've been going there for 15 years, last 2 years since they upped the price of oxy, they are all walking around with 200 shirts and bling, I hate them,

walgreens is now the worst place to fill when they used to be the best. I still have no issues with filling my oxycontin scrip but they have not apparently had the roxis/oxys for several weeks. My only luck has been with Sweet Bay, CVS and a couple independent pharmacies. Some may not take your insurance and you'll have to pay a huge price and get reimbursed for a regular price (that's the thing that the others who have doctor shopped have helped us get to). I am also one who has been on pain meds for years, have MRI's etc and all of the sudden Walgreens just no longer would fill the scrips for the immediate release opiate (blues/oxys/roxis). This sucks cause I, too, have had to drive around all over Hillsborough county to get filled. They also will not fill outside of county and many will not do the 180 tabs for you (shich I have too) most are getting down to 120 tabs as a max so please try to wean yourself off. I know its hard, I've been cut in half since december - it is not easy nor is it fair that the docs are the ones who did this to us, we didn't do it!!!

your so correct...the way i am and you and thousands of others have had our meds slashed in more than 75% from what i was getting 5 months ago until dr shut down. controlled my pain since 2000 and the current doctor is only giving me less than half of meds that i have used over the past several years to gain control of my life and allowed me to function and have quality of life. now, being cut from 80mg oxycontin 2 tabs twice daily since 2000. To then last year go down to 30mg roxi 1-2 tabs 6-8 hours as needed and this worked fine which was way less than the 320mg oxycontin the other dr had me on for 11 yrs.
now im cut down from that to 20mg oxycontin twice daily.
now can you imagine how you would feel by having a dr do this to me and due to money going to a new dr and insurance, etc which right now isnt good for me so im screwed. my body even with this extremly low dosage when he knows what i was on for yrs. im doing what person above said-suffer and let the body get used to new dosage and hope new doctor comes soon

@shortageinflcausedbyoutofstatepatients you are incorrect on the out of county, i had a walgreen tech about 10 miles away tell me i have to be in a 5 mile radius, i asked her, is that walgreen policy or just your store, she said "thats this store policy" i called back later and another tech told me that is not true! i was able to fill at a chain outside florida while on vacation. they are lying

@savage im surprised they cut your dose so dramatically, you should explain this to a different doc if this one makes you pay the 200 for visit and u dont even get the correct dosage. I know the oxycontin has been switching to those indestructable tamper proof ones, which, for me, dont absorb in my body, they basically go straight through my system, maybe thats why you are in pain. did u try switching to dialaudid 8 mg? its easier to get but it takes about 1.5 to equal 1 30 mg oxy for strength. I do this when i cant get oxycodone, but i have noticed it makes me too tired, i fall asleep at the computer! while when i use oxycodone, i dont get the sedating drugged feeling and can do my daily routines almost at 100%
