2011 30 Mg Oxycodone Shortage (Page 5)
UpdatedI am a 51 y/o who lives in Florida, suffering from chronic back pain, and have been prescribed to take up to six 30mg oxycodone tablets a day for over two years by my Pain Management doctor. However, when I went to fill my prescription almost 4 weeks ago, my pharmacy told me their distributor had stopped shipping oxycodone to Florida pharmacies. Since then, I have personally visited about 100 pharmacies but have been unable to find them in stock anywhere. As a former paralegal, I attempted to research the situation, but could only confirm that the DEA has yearly quot on all controlled substances (for oxy's is 98 million grams in 2011). From I gather from the Internet, it appears that the ENTIRE state of FLORIDA is not getting any shipments of oxycodone 30 mg. from distributors, but are other states having this problem as well? Also, can anyone confirm whether (and HOW) the DEA is pressuring distributors to avoid Florida?
Florida, don't get paranoid. The DEA does an estimate on how much is needed on Schedule II drugs the first of the year, for that year. This is done for the reason of extra production has more chance of diversion. This is their attempt to stop illegal diversion. When a manufacturer hit their quota, they stop manufacturing it. It's not just opiates. I have a script for.. #60 of 10mg dextroamphetamine sulfate ( Dexedrine) a Schedule II amphetamine. I had to check all the Pharmacies and only one had any left in November. In December I got twice the quantity... #120 of 5mg since the 10mg were out at all the Pharmacies in November. I checked ALL the Pharmacies and only one had them in December!! The hydromorphone #120 of 4mgs ( Diluadid ) I had a lttle problem, but nothing like the Dextroamphetamines. The Dexies were almost impossible to get the last 8 weeks of the year. They are back in stock now that it's January 17th or will be by the first of the week at other Pharmacies. They rather under estimate than over estimate. What that tells you is they under estimated on 30mg Oxys or there was more consumption than expected OR they are bad at estimating, but it's all Schedule II meds get that treatment, not just opiates or Oxy's. I'm a 57 year old stage IV cancer patient in Ft Lauderdale prescribed oxycodone for bone pain.
I can't find any pharmacy to fill it!! I understand there have been pill mills and illegal use of these medicines here - but it is so unfair of the DEA or whoever to take away to the supply from those of us who need it!
What can we do
There is pressure here from all the negative media. This is why I would like for all Florida patients to sign and fill out this information on the links. I hope to have topped the max number sometime this week. Feel free to spread around to as many people as possible. Print and take this to your doctor this week. He will get this info out to all their patients. This helping our doctors help us. Thank you, Donna
I live in Lousiana and we too are currantly unable to fill our roxcodone prescriptions. My physician is based in Houston and is in the Louisiana medical base for medicaid and medicare, so I thought I could go either to Texas or to Louisiana. But neither state has any and we are being told the pharmacies are on back order for at least two weeks. I am allergic to morphine and have a hard time swallowing anything much larger than my prescription for roxycodone without gagging. I am truly hoping there will be a solution.
I too am.having a difficult time finding my medication. I have a bone degenerative disease n was in a terrible car accident that left me w many fractures in my spine n neck n shattered discs..I've been on the medication and it works for me it makes me have some quality of life. I also am a nurse and find.it horrible that I am bein treated as a drug addict by some pharmacies.I was also pulled over and harassed by the police about goin to different pharmacies.the medication is needed for those who need it and for some.reason that is bein prevented. It saddenes me as a healthcare professional who takes care of my patients now I can't even take care of myself. My medication is not available.
Yes..I was told by he pharmacist.that my insurance is no.good to them for my med...and they can't help me but if I have 1000 dollars I can have my medication...drug dealers have that kind of money I work n pay for my.insurance....I have a bone disease which can b expensive so I take my med so I can work to pay for insurance which now I can't use...what a world we live in
It all boils down to this. Back in the late 80's doctors decided to treat pain from for other conditions besides cancer. Now that our population in the world is toppped out at 7billion. We have alot more people needing pain meds. The state officials are crapping their pants because oxyocodone is a great drug for pain and everybody takes it, so they don't want anyone to take pain meds anymore. Yes our state legislators let bad doctors, pill mills and addicts run away with all this for so many years and now they want to shut everything down. Down so far down, that legitimate pain patients can't even get their meds filled anymore. The pharmacies think they are doctors now and they are picking and choosing who should get the meds and how much. There is no shortages or whatever your pharmacies are telling you. There is a conspiracy going on so badly that pharmacies won't even talk to the press and tell who is pressing them. If they did talk then that won't true either. So we have to find a way to fight for our rights for pain care besides getting long needles stuck in our backs. That doesn't always work. Surgeries can cause more harm then good and have more risks than pain meds to the patient. The only people that have caused all these problems are the ones I mentioned before. Because some addicts got some pills and abused them along with taking other illegal drugs with them and drinking alocohol we have to pay the price for them. Please sign our petition and survey to help patients and doctors try to balance all this out. Thank you in advance but really thank yourself for helping you keep your meds. Use mail order pharmacy through your insurance and you will eliminate your headaches of driving all over town to try to get them filled. Plus using mail order will help the pharmacies lose money. They deserve it after trying to act like doctors. This whole mess needs to stop the suffering or everyone that has to take meds will go on SSDI and break the Govt. down even more. The Govt gets away with corruption and WE the People have to take our country back and stop politians from controlling our lives. If you seriously have pain be prepared to talk with the media. We need everyone to stand up and speak out.
I to am having the same problem. I have been taking oxycodone now for 7 years same strength same quant. These pharmacys are lie about not stocking them. My mail in order pharmacy will only do 90 days worth. I wish we could all get together and hire an attorney for these palces CVS,walgrens, walmart etc.
I thought the law on Schedule II drugs such as oxycodone is you can't get more than a month's supply filled, and no refills on one script?
This is a list and why the shortage of medications, with the outlook of future supplies.

I don't understand. Yesterday I went to my doctor and he wrote my script. I went to the same CVS I have been going to for the past 2 years and they filled my Roxicodone 220 30 mgs and my Oxycottin 90/ 80 mgs. without a problem. I have been going to the same doctor for 20 years and I have had 12 surgeries on my neck and back. I wish I didn't have to take any of these and hope to god that next week when i see my nurosergeon he gives me good news but I think I'm going to have a major surgery again.
Which cVs. I have express scripts insurance and every cvs tells me they do not stock them.
what cvs
We are having the same problems in Louisiana . The problem in Florida is that 87% of roxicodone was being sent there causing a shortage across the USA. It's not fair to send 87% to one state and all others have to go without either. Florida doctors caused the problem over writing and especially the A-holes who made the film oxycontin express, letting the world know causing people who look down on us to call legislators .
Amen on that one, only thing I can take because of gastric ulcers and Agent Orange. Really got chewed up in accident in '94 and inoperable probs remain that keep me in agony.
Finding a Mail order that will fill for less than 90 days is hard and if you do find one that will do a 28-30 day fill is really hard. THEN you tell them that you need them shipped to So. FL. and get told that as of beginning Jan of 2012 they no longer ship to Florida...
