2 Questions About Vicodin

O.k so firstly I would like to state why I have been taking Vicodin. I first started because of a BAD back, which unfortunately includes 1 herniated disc, 3 bulging discs, and diffuse spondylosis, hence widespread arthritis in my lower back. As well as what was described to me by the orthopedic surgeon, as an abnormally narrow spinal canal.

This however, has been a recurring injury for a while as it eventually stopped me from playing football since I got my first bulging disc in the 7th grade. And gradually I got worse and worse because my condescending doctor INSISTED that I merely had a strain. And so now at 18 I finally got my first disc herniation, and am really stressed and depressed since I was set to join the military and had been a 2 time teen powerlifting champion.

All my hopes and dreams seem gone.

This was tough, but now my doctors are treating me like a drug seeker although I have only been on Vicodin for about a month. Though I admit i may have gone through my last prescription rather quickly.

So with my condition is two weeks too fast to have gone through 60 pills of 5/500 Vicodin?

And secondly, since I have built a high tolerance already should I ask for stronger medication.

And finally I think my doctors are just giving me a hard time because of my age, but are they really justified.

What were the directions for dosing frequency for the Vicodin?

That's the relevant question. It will usually direct you to take one every so many hours, as needed and that will then provide the answer as to whether you used them up too fast, or not. The prescription will usually list that it is a supply expected to last 14 days, 30 days, or etc. Or you doctor may tell you that it needs to last you for a certain period of time.

What type of doctors are you seeing for treatment? Most general practitioners are going to be reluctant to treat such severe pain.

Is the codeine in Vicodin closely related to morphine? I had a bad reaction (severe vomitting) to morphine post-op in the hospital. But I have occasionally taken Vicodin over the years for migraines. I recently broke a couple toes, and the UC doctor really questioned me about reacting to morphine, but that I was OK with Vicodin. I almost felt like he thought I was drug-seeking, but I hadn't even asked for the Vicodin. My PCP knows my morphine reaction, but never commented that I should not take Vicodin. Now I'm afraid to take the Vicodin, as I can't run to the bathroom to throw up with broken toes!
