is taking 2 10mg oxycontin tabs the same as taking 1 20mg oxycontin?

Yes, it would essentially be the same, though there may be some slight variations, just due to there being two separate pills, so the release rate could be slightly different.

I have been taking 1 oxycontin 20 mg twice a day every 12 hrs for over 5 yrs. Now I have a new Medical Insurance and they want my Pain Management Dr to give them a written prior authorization form, to explain why I need to take Oxycontin20mg 2 X daily for my sever pain & that it is the Only Pain Medication That Works for Me! I have been in sever Pain for past 7 years and getting Worse...I have a Deterreating disks from my upper Neck down Spine, Both Hips are Bone to Bone Grinding & need Replacements, Both Knees are deterreating, Both of my arms and hands have sever Nerve damage and need surgury and fractured skull! This is Total Body Sever Painfor Me & Non Stop! And if I could take 2 of the 10mg Oxycotin every 12 hrs instead of 1 20mg Oxycontin every 12 hrs...then that would be helpful for my Sever Pain! MG

If a person has been on oxycontin 20mg tabs, taking 1 tab every 12 hrs, for over 3 months, and has not had any side effects (check pharmacy medication details that come printed with your prescription for a list of side effects), and your system tolerates this pain medication and then your doctor changes your prescription to oxycontin 10mg, taking 1 every 12 hrs, then I strongly advise you to continue to follow your doctors orders as prescribed! But if you are to continue to take the same dose of oxycontin 20mg 1 tab every 12 hrs and you are prescribed 2 oxycontin 10mg every 12 hrs then your new script would be 120 oxycontin 10mg tabs instead of originally getting 60 oxycontin 20mg tabs for month. But if your doctors trying to wean you down from a higher dose of oxycontin then you must follow your doctors orders! Oxycontin and oxycodone are very dangerous pain medications that must be taken only as prescribed by a licensed medical doctor and closely followed by the prescribing doctor! Oxycontin is a form of opioid that is addictive and can be fatal if taken by the wrong person, a child, an elderly person, pregnant women, disabled individual, taken the wrong way, taken with other meds, taken with alcohol, and one should never drive or operate machinery while taking any pain medications due to non coherence or ability to be in full alert condition & is very dangerous!
