1st Month Taking Microgestin Fe 1/20 Bleeding For 8days

1st month taking microgestin fe 1/20, Bleeding heavy for 8days ,my usual period only last up to 5 days. I have 4brown pills left ,should I stop taking the pills or continue ?

Since this is a hormonal based contraceptive, irregular bleeding can occur for the first 3 months, or so, while your body is getting used to the hormonal change. If it continues past 3 months, then it might not be the right one for you and you may need to switch to a different OC.

Other side effects may include nausea, headache and mood swings.

However, you should continue taking them, unless your doctor instructs you otherwise.

Thank you so much for your response, the bleeding stopped after 9days, your reply was very reassuring.

I just started my 2nd Pack of Microgestin Fe 1/20, I'm on day3 of my white pills. During My First Pack I Took Maybe 3Pill Hrs Late &One a Day Late But Never Missed Any. This Probably Affected the Longer Bleeding. I've Now Adjusted to Taking My Pills On Time. Haven't Had Unprotected intercourse In Months.

1) Will my late pill-taking effect unprotected intercourse in the near future ? Am I protected by the pills?
2) Will these pills take away/shorten my period after the 3months?

Hello again, Silky!

No, just taking them late will not cause a pregnancy risk, you've got a pretty good window of about 12 hours, or so, before it would be considered a missed tablet.

And yes, it should, though there are no guarantees, but most women taking OCs do experience lighter and shorter periods. Some women don't have a period, at all, while taking them.
