When I found out my regular doctor couldn't get me in on an appointment JUST to get medication refills, I asked if I could see another Dr. in the building...figured they could just talk to each other so I can prove I'm not an addict and get my medication..receptionist told me it didn't matter, only the ORIGINAL attending physician could prescribe class 4 or whatever narcotics...that I have been on for nearly 15 years and decreased the dosage myself from 820 mg. day to 90...What do people do if they are DYING and can't get in to their doctor...and what if I just didn't like my doctor and wanted to switch to a new dr? I am now in the position of either going without ANY medication for 10 days or so, taking a really high dose of extended release that I have left, or cutting up the extended release...because my doctor can't see me and apparently I can't even get results seeing another doctor in the same office. is this still more hoops that people have to go thru because of the new drug laws? And I am in Colorado, so I could quite easily consume marijuana if I thought it would help...

Kind of late but Coloradoan here. You can call your pharmacy and they would contact/fax your doctors office, in turn your doctor. Another option is urgent care doctors will usually understand and help if you can explain the situation. Most undesirable case is going to the hospitals er if you feel you need to.
