16mg Dilaudid Given To Me Per Day Then Had Memory Problems
UpdatedMy doctor knew nothing about how this medication would work in my system. And am upset because my behavior changed drastically while taking it with the Fetenyl pain patch. Doctor then changed me to hydrocodone quickly one day. He had given me so much I had memory loss and ultimately a stroke. Anyone else have same trouble with this dose of diladid.? Doctor insisted I take it until memory loss set in.

I am very sorry about what happened to you.
However, no one can know how any given medication will affect anyone, if they've never taken it before.
Opiates have been known to cause personality changes in some people that take them, as well as memory issues, as listed by the FDA. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
I have not ever heard of one directly causing a stroke, though.
What dose were you taking?
The most important thing that I always try to explain to people is that regardless of why your doctor prescribes something, taking it is entirely up to you. Barring a court order in certain psychiatric cases, no one can force you to take a medication, just because your doctor prescribed it.
Hello, and thank you for replying. I was on 16 mgs of Dialudid a day for 8 months. Along with the Fentanyl pain patch. I told the doctor I was having trouble driving and he said that I should be able to drive and not have any memory problems. Here is the thing though. Although I know it is up to me to take or not to take these meds. It is the doctors responsibility to keep up with the literature of these medications. I really think it was a combination of medication that pushed my brain over the edge. But taking this much Dialudid should always be questioned. It may not seem like much, but when you convert Dialudid into morphine and the way it remains in your system is very frightening if not down right deadly. This doctor I saw did not do his home work on about 6 medications he gave me. Thank God I didn't take them all. Because each one interacted with the other. When an opiate drug is not an Extended Release over time, like Dialudid, always question it.
There's a very good reason dilaudid is known as HOSPITAL HEROIN by most med professionals when administered parentally. I don't know one patient that takes it as directed orally. It's oral efficiency is extreamly limited and truth be told hydrocodome or oxycodone is more effective via oral administration for short term acute pain relief. If your md's are incompetent enough to Rx it for chronic pain well time to seek another med opinion.
We think this was given to my 91 year old mother by mistake in er, after numerous test too many to mention, except EEG given 2 times to look for brain function, they ruled out stroke, but the attendant who came into her room the day she left hospital to do another EEG told us she indeed did have a stroke and they were looking for brain activity, but he indicated to us not to say anything to hospital that he told us that, my mother came home from hospital under hospice care and passed away 6 days later, she was semi comatose the whole time unable to talk hardly or hold her eyes open.
