10yrs And Quit - How Long Do The Withdrawals Last

I started taking methadone about 10yrs ago for pain. Started with 80mg a day and by the 2nd yr I was down to 40-50 mg a day. Over this past year I weaned myself off to nothing VERY slowly. It has been a month and I still can't sleep and feel like crap. Any replies would be appreciated.

Methadone is notoriously hard to stop, it's very well known to cause severe withdrawals and cravings that can last a very long time. It may actually take a couple months, before you start to feel back to normal.

That's why many people treated with it for drug addiction end up on a lifetime maintenance dose of it, rather then becoming completely drug free.

The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

How are you feeling, now? Have things gotten any better?

Hi there for the person asking about methadone withdrawal after 10yrs use.I was on the first time for 15 yrs & walked off on 90 so that was brutal.i ended up incarcerated but after 38days no sleep i finally passed out for 1hr40mins.Next detox again walked off &used herion to ease pain.Worked great did that for about 2-3wks(the hard part is not doing it 3days in a row or you'll b strung out on H.The best way is with your clinic and how you feel each day.You'l not sleep like when on the juice but after 2,3months i was sleeping 5,6hours straight &u should 2!Were u taking anything else with ur dose?The weakness it should b better by now for u & i wish it gets great for u. Everybody reacts differently i forget that alot.Post how u r doing.K

Hey Verwon, thanks for the reply things are getting a little better, it's been almost 2 months now and still sleep isn't coming easy. I'm really praying that I don't have to go on a maintenance dose just to be normal..... Hanging in there
