Which is stronger? My new insurance won't pay for oxycontin and substituted generic percoset but it doesn't seem to work as well. Is it my imagination?

Hello, John! How are you?

Oxycodone and Oxycontin are the same medication, Oxycontin is just a name brand for the time released version of it, so the 30mgs is stronger, it's just released slowly over an 8 hour period, as compared to the regular release that is released all at once.

The FDA classifies it as a narcotic analgesic, so it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation.

You may want to ask our doctor about possibly trying MS Contin, it is a time released formulation of Morphine that is also available as a generic, so most insurance plans cover it.

Is there anything else I can help with?
