What "law" is this that you received? In 2013, the FDA tossed out this limit or morphine equivlent as far as my research goes and I cannot find any "law" that limits this dose. There are guidelines only; no law that I can find. I have been prescribed a "narcotic" and currently receive it under Workers' Comp. and my insurance carriers have not denied payment. If this was illegal, they would surely not pay for it! Please tell me where this law is written as I cannot find anything but a "guideline" for providers, but no law. I do know that there lots of paperwork doctors must fill out, etc. and there's the fear. They want to get rid of all pain patients and send them to pain management who only want to stick needles in your back. This is a mess. Something needs to be done and done soon; this is totally uncalled for and ridiculous. I looked at that "guideline" about the morphine equivalent and I'm just over by a few milligrams for a daily "limit." Again, can't find any NY State Law and if anyone is a "stickler" for laws, it's Workers' Comp. and so far, no problems. This is very confusing, isn't it? I know for a fact that some doctors would like you to believe there is a law they must abide by, but was not true (it was for some very mild pain med, schedule IV that one of my former colleagues was told her doc could not write them due to this non-existent "law." Check out everything with NY State, call if you must. Check out the FDA "guidelines" which on a doctor's website who is fighting for patients rights and against all this "BS," he quotes on his site that the FDA tossed out any "morphine equvalent" restrictions, etc. Please post again to let us know what you find out. Thanks.
Hello, Zack! How are you?
Yes, the new limit is supposed to be no more than the equivalent of 100mgs of Morphine, per day.
Have you consulted your doctor to see if they have any ideas? These new regulations have been causing problems for people all over the U.S.
The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
