100mcg Levothyroxine - No Thyroid

Blood work said I was low. I do not sleep at night, out of breath easily and just don't feel right. My levothyroxine started at 112 to 100mcg. It is still low. Should it go to 75mcg?

It sounds like you may actually need a higher dose. How much are you currently taking?

The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, dry skin, hair loss and weight changes.

Are you on any other medications? Do you take any herbs or other supplements regularly?

I went on 125mgs of levothyroxine. very low function, I went to my dr. because I began gaining weight? and I have been on it for yrs and yrs! I was in my fortys . and I am now goin to be 70 and I take 88mgs..I started not sleeping once in a while. over several yrs? I slept maybe 3 nites a week and was told. it . levothyroxine can cause insomnia....well in 2001.no kidding.. I just stopped sleeping!!! it went on for 12 years!! I ended up not being able to work full time ..work period..u cannot function on no sleep...has anyone else? had this experience?? my new dr said yes thyroid meds long term. can cause chronic insomnia... Thank god . my new dr gave me a prescription..and I do sleep..and have a normal daytime life like I use to.my heart goes out to anyone who goes thru this.
