I am 17weeks pregnant and have a vaginal infection and my doctor prescribed betamox 750mg to take 3x a day after meals.. It is NOT effect against viruses, such as those that cause the flu or a cold. In addition, if you use it for such, it could result in antibiotic resistant bacteria. Is it safe to take this so early in my pregnancy? ## Based on my research, Betamox (amoxicillin) has been assigned to pregnancy category B by the FDA. "Animal studies using 10 times the human dose have failed to reveal any evidence of teratogenicity. Although no controlled data in human pregnancy are available, literature reports of adverse fetal effects are lacking. Amoxicillin is only recommended during pregnancy when benefit outweighs risk."
