Hello. I am a migraine sufferer. I have to go at least once a month for an injection by the doctor. I usually get Atherax or Pethadine and an anti nausea injection. I have been getting migraines for the past 11 years. I have noticed that the migraines are usually present a week or a week after my menstruation cycle. My doctor has given me trepaline now. I am currently taking two tablets daily. What is the effects of the medication given having on my body and is there any other medinces that can be given that will not have any addictive side effects. I have heard that there is an operation that can be done where a vein is cut that is on the head and many people say that they are then cured from migraines. Is this true? Please help!!

The correct drug name is Amitriptyline, it is an antidepressant, it is not approved as a treatment for chronic pain, but some doctors do prescribe it for that and swear by it.

Some of the most common side effects include: nausea, drowsiness, dry mouth and weight gain.
