Every time I take this for bladder infections I get water blisters on my penis. My Dr.said it shouldn't do that but the only time this happens is when I take this drug. I do have minor bladder leakage. Could this be why the blistering happens or what else can it be? - Filed in Sulfamethoxazole

Hi Wayne. I was prescribed this medication for an infected dog bite. I went to a great surgeon for followup of the bite. The surgeon told me that sulfa drugs cause Stevens-Johnson syndrome, which can be deadly. I developed a skin rash with the sulfa, so my new doctor told me to stop taking it. He said he saw an actual case where a person took sulfa for a tract infection, and the person died because the skin completely detached (SJ syndrome). It's really bad stuff. Just Google sulfa drugs or Stevens-Johnson syndrome and you will see. Feel better!

It is very difficult to say what may be causing it.

Have you actually gone to your doctor, while they are present, so they can discover the cause?

Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim is an antibiotic and they can cause skin reactions, in some people.

However, it could also be related to the infection itself, or it could be some type of STD, such as herpes, that is being aggravated and flaring up, when you have an active infection.

https://rxchat.com/wiki/Bactrim/

https://rxchat.com/wiki/Sexually_transmitted_disease/
