I started taking my Sprintec on a Tuesday(for the first time), but it was the Tuesday after my period was over. I did not know how I was supposed to take this birthcontrol. I usually have a 28 day cycle but I am 2 days late. I am now going on my third white pill. Will the birthcontrol delay my period because of how I took it, will it affect my cycle now? Help! - Filed in Sprintec

Relax, it is completely normal to have some irregularities when you are new to taking hormonal contraceptives.

Now, the first question is, when you started it, did you use extra protection for the first 7 days?

If you didn't and you were sexually active that first week, then you may be pregnant. If you don't start it on the first day of your period, then it takes 7 days to reach its full efficacy level in your body to protect you against pregnancy.

You can learn more Sprintec details here.

Now, if that isn't a possibility, then it is most likely just the hormones in these pills, like I said, it is normal for them to throw you off for about the first 3 months, since your body isn't used to them yet. It can take awhile to adjust.

Thus, you may experience more bleeding than usual, less than usual, or none, even during the week you should and it's really nothing to worry about, unless you've missed pills or didn't use protection when necessary and could be pregnant, or if you're experiencing other unusual symptoms.
