I had whipple surgery 4 years ago, thought it was cancer but it was auto-immune obstruction of my bile duct. Have been on azathioprine for 4 years, prednizone for 2 months. Now I will be going on Rituxan as I blocked up again. This drug sounds scarry, I would like any comments on this condition or drug. ## Yes, Rituximab has the potential to cause some serious issues, but the whole reason it was approved by the U.S. FDA was because it showed greater safety than many similar drugs. You can learn more about it here: I'm assuming you've started by now, how are you doing with it?

Can dermatomyositus be cured with the drug Mab Thera (manufactured by Roche)? ## First off, I would like to state that Dermatomyositis is a connective tissue disease and, as such, it had no known cure, it can only be treated to help delay its progression and alleviate the associated symptoms that it causes. The medication Mab Thera contains the active ingredient Rituximab, which is a chimeric monoclonal antibody. It is commonly used to treat Leukemia and auto-immune disorders, such as this.

Is Rituximab successful in curring dermatomyositus & what are the side effects ## There is really no cure for Dermatomyositis, though it can be controlled with the use of medications and in some cases remission is achieved. As to Rituximab, just like any other medication, it works for for some people and not for others, there is no way to know until you try it.
