Has anyone been allergic to orthovisc? ## i had an injection in both knees on Thursday, by Friday i was breaking out in hives on the legs and arms several times a day. It has continued thru Monday but only 3 incidences on Monday, involving arms, legs and torso. Not much help from doctor's office of Anika, the manufacturer and distributor of product ## It is always possible to be allergic to any medication, regardless of how it is administered, or if it's over the counter, or given by prescription. How are you doing, now? Did you stop using it? Are you on any other medications? The FDA lists other side effects as possibly including administration site reactions, redness, skin flaking, and dryness.

Is there gluten in the Orthovisc injectable? ## Hi Diane, From what I was able to gather, the product labeling does not list their inactive ingredients (which may or may not include gluten). Further administration precautions note the following: "Orthovisc Precautions: Before using hyaluronate, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to bird proteins, feathers, or egg products; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients (such as latex found in the rubber syringe cap of some brands), which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details." Since the product labeling is very vague, I think it would be best to just follow those guidelines and contact your local pharmacy for more info...
