What your mother is doing is very dangerous. By crushing a 10 mg ER oxycodone tablet she is essentally releasing 12 hours of medication all at the same time. That is 120 mgs of oxycodone which is a very high dose. Plus you said she has crushed three of them and has been taking her 15mg IR oxycodne as well. So, that is 460mg of oxycodone plus however many immediate release tablets. This is a huge dose and is deffinitly in a possible overdose range. As it sounds, her pain is not under control. What she doesn't know is that more is not always better. There have been studies done that show high doeses of narcotics may acctually increase pain. The bottom line is she needs to speak with her Pain Management Physician as soon as possible. She must convey that her pain is still not under control and it is effecting her day to day life negatively. Our doctors are our friends and if she can talk to him about her pain not being controlled he may up her medication. Another thing that she may not be thinking of is that she will run out of medication early. She will then go into withdrawl which can be very uncomfortable if not life threatning Now, I am not a person who likes to lie but in this case she should not tell her doctor what she has been doing. Crushing time released pills is a dirrect violation of any Opiate Contract she may have signed and would result in an immediate Termination. It is very hard to find another doctor to priscribe opiates to a person who has been terminted by another physician for violating an Opiate Contract. Your mother is on a dangerous path and it sounds like she needs some major help. I have chronic pain and i now she is just desperate to make the pain go away but the way she is doing it is to dangerous. Please watchout for her and don't let her go to sleep and give her some caffine. She could slip into a coma and not come out or cause major brain damage. It happened to a close friend of mine and he is basically a shell of his formal self. He can't do anything for himself and he can't communicate. You never think it will happen to you until it does and she will end up hurting her family more then she will ever know. She must remember that being priscribed narcotics is not a right it is a privlage and it could be taken away at any moment. This would be devisating to a person in chronic pain. Have her read some blogs about people who have been terminated. Maybe it will give her some insight. Good luck!
