I take both. It is closely monitored by both doctors, and is counted weekly to check for non-abuse. It is rare, I'm one of 2 people in my facility, but it can be done.

When I went to the suboxone clinic they told me I had to stop taking all benzos cuz if you take suboxone or methadone you have a higher risk of overdose cuz the chemical in your brain is different than opiates. So I just say if it is a prescription that your doc gives you tell him/her you are going to start methadone and he will taper you to a safe point where it won't interact with the methadone if you have any more? I don't mind helping people out so they can be safe. Just know your limits and never push them to the breaking point cuz after that is death, trust me.

Dude bro, don't lie to your doctor like jackass Brandon recommends. Also talk to your counselor and tell them you want to be clean, that means no methadone asap. When your on merhadone your still a junkie. Bye the way you can get drunk off your ass everyday when on the dones and never have a hangover, diarrhea, gut rot. What a great life

@Brandon - You are advising the OP to not tell the methadone doc that you are on benzos...but the first time the OP takes the mandatory urine test at the methadone clinic, the test will show positive for benzos. Even if its just the simple urine testing stick. I am on methadone and Klonopin and when I'm heading into the Dr's office I get handed my pee stick to hand the Dr. and it ALWAYS shows positive for benzos.

Hi, I know how you feel, because I have been there, and back for over 25 years I was a heavy user, but please be very careful as taking pins, and methadone together is what we call a "death cocktail" in fact I just lost a brother from nodding off from taking those two together. now people are using klonopin, and suboxone together and then they start to nod off, and it's goodnight time for good. I have seen good friends die one to many times from booting or getting a bad hit or trying to quit and commit suicide because the withdrawals were just to much. Hang in there and remember when you feel like nobody cares, we do... All of us in this forum.

Dude I'm on 75mg of methadone and xanax 4mg a day and klonopin 4mg a day due to my severe anxiety I have methadone prescribed to me by a doctor but I've gone to clinics before.... DO NOT TELL THEM U ARE TAKING KLONOPIN!!!! THEY WONT PUT U ON MAINTENANCE IF U TELL THEM THAT BECAUSE THEY SAY ITS DANGEROUS BUT SOME TIMES IT CAN BE BUT MY DOCTOR PRESCRIBED ME BOTH XANAX klonopin AND METHADONE PILLS AND HE SAID I WILL BE FINE ....SO JUST LETTING U KNO BRO CUZ I FEEL FOR YOU I WAS ABUSING HEROIN FOR TEN YEARS AND THE ONLY THING THAT HAS HELPED ME WAS THE METHADONE AND XANAX AND KLONOPIN SO DONT TELLL THEM S*** JUST TELLL THEM THAT U DO LIKE 3 TO 4 GRAMS A DAY AND THEY WILL HOOK U UP WITH A FAT DOSE OF LIKE 80MG A DAY AND THEN IF U WANNA MILK IT SAY THAT THE 80MG ISNT ENOUGH AND U STILL WAKE UP SICK. Actually, it will depend on the specific clinic and their policies. Some may allow it, but others may require a dosage reduction or not allow any Benzodiazepine usage.

The reason for this is due to the fact that taking a Benzodiazepine with the Methadone can cause additive effects, which may result in severely lowered blood pressure, heart rate, vasodilation and respiratory depression.

Dear Chloe...I live in Washington State and have been on a Methadone Maintenance Program & am a Certified Wa State Drug/Alcohol Counselor. Yes, you may take your benzodiazipine...Clonazepam, Alprazolam, Ativan etc IF you have a Dr's perscription. However, the program will probably limit how much methadone you are allowed to take. I was allowed 80mgs methadone w/ a perscription of Alprazolam (xanax) 2mgs, 3x's daily. They will want to count your medicine, once a month, to make sure you're not taking more then perscribed. They don't want you to overdose. Taking Klonopin (Clonazepam) @ 3mgs daily shouldn't be a problem. Look into your states rules on methadone maintenance & Benzodiazipines. I hope this helps. Taking Heroin AND Methadone is useless as the methadone in an antagonist & will not allow you to "feel" any or not much from the heroin making an overdose more likely.Good Luck.
