In fact Verwon, it is perfectly safe; we are talking 20mg caps here. Kapanol is a brand designed for 24 hour dosage like MXL.
I would only be worried if the user had zero opioid tolerance but even then, morphine 20mg is not a high dose; bioavailability orally is only around 46% & I know many people who take either orally or by insufflation 20mg oxynorm caps only once weekly so no tolerance. That has b/a of 85-89% & is nearly three times the strength of morphine sulphate, no bad or dangerous effect ever observed. I am not sure of the m/r system of Kapanol, but beads... Zomorph 12 hourly MS is like that and is simply crushed between two spoons to defeat m/r. Sevredol 20mg IR tabs are routinely given for acute pain and I never heard of anything untoward happening.
Diamorphine 10mg tabs IR are often substituted but for severe pain that oral dose is often not enough and has to be repeated in 30 mins. For RTA victims perhaps with broken bones waiting to be cut out of the vehicle the first line Rx at roadside is 10mg diamorphine followed by 30mg, both IV, have seen my father administer several times, never again any problems with those dosages, though 30mg dose more often than not results in deep sedation and peaceful pain free sleep.

It is actually not safe to try and do this, defeating the time released formulation can result in your getting too much of the medication at once and this could result in an overdosage, which in some cases can be fatal.

Morphine is a very potent narcotic analgesic.

Have you spoken to your doctor? If the time release, at this dosage, is not handling your pain, then you may need a higher dose or something the releases faster, to help manage your pain.

This medication can also cause side effects, such as: nausea, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
