It is a small light tan pill and I am wondering whether anyone knows where I can fill my prescription for it in MA? I see a few people on this site are also taking it. My pharmacy is having a hard time ordering it! ## Dear Marin, Sorry to hear about your situation. According to a letter from the manufacturer, reported on December 11th, 2017, there appears to be a temporary shortage with lots of backorders working to be fulfilled. However, they go on to note that Nature-Throid ½ grain and 1 grain dosage forms are still actively shipping. You can view more details about this here: getrealthyroid.com/product-availability. They go on to note that, "any pharmacy can fill your prescripti...

The name of the medication is simply Thyroid but I would like to find out what is in it, who makes it, is it time release or immediate release, etc.? Thanks for the help. ## Hello, Sonia! How are you? That is exactly what it contains, desiccated thyroid, 120mg of animal origin. It is regular release and manufactured by Rugby. Is there anything else I can help with?

Is this a multivitamin tablet? ## Hello, Dona! How are you? This is a medication that combines desiccated thyroid with vitamins and nutrients. Many women with PCOS do have thyroid problems, but if you don't, I am not sure why he would prescribe this. Have you asked your doctor about it?

I am scheduled for a surgery next week, a surgery unrelated to my thyroid. I have read somewhere the dosage of desiccated thyroid should be temporarily reduced in times of stress. Can anyone advise me of exactly how this should be done? ## Hi 63roses, With any prescription medication, it is usually advised that one speak with a doctor before making any changes to the dosage. If you aren't able to see your doctor I would just be sure to tell your surgeon (and nurses) that you are taking the desiccated thyroid medication, before your surgery. There is a chance you may need to stop using the medication for a short amount of time. I imagine that your surgeon will be able to give you some instructions if need be. Does anyone else have information to add regarding this topic?
