My mom suffers from cirousus of the liver and has rec bleeding which passes from her stomach .She has auto immuine also. Last year she had 8 bld transfusions. But when her blood gets low they always try prednisone . She also is diabetic this makes her sugar sky high is there no other way to treat this issue????

Prednisone is a corticosteroid and it is used to treat many conditions.
That said, when trying something for treatment, her doctors must take all of her health problems and other medications under consideration, before prescribing something. This may be the safest for her to use for this problem.
The rising blood sugar is a normal side effect, along with: weight gain, nausea and drowsiness.
