Hello, Joe! How are you?
Yes, you can do a straight switch from one to the other. They both contain Buprenorphine, but Suboxone also contains Naloxone to help prevent someone from abusing other narcotics, while being treated with it.
The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate that is most commonly used to treat drug addiction, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
Suboxone is the preferred choice, unless a woman is pregnant, or the person is allergic to the Naloxone, so most doctor's are switching their patients.
Is there anything else I can help with?
What are the doctors switching you too?? Cuz I'm allergic
I have been prescribed to subutex for a year during my pregnancy. My insurance made My Dr switch me to suboxone even though I am breastfeeding, I was ok with that but not completely comfortable. I had an allergic reaction to the suboxone that included hives, severe itching, headache, vomiting, and a feeling like my insides were on fire. My Dr sent me to another Dr for a steroid shot and they prescribed me prednisone and benadryl. My Dr needed documentation from another Dr that I did in fact have a reaction for my insurance/medical card to put me back on subutex. My I insurance is saying my allergic reaction was not life threatening and they will only pay for suboxone and I'll have to take prednisone and benadryl daily with the suboxone in order not to have a reaction. Prednisone is definitely not a long term drug as my subutex is and benadryl is not ideal since I have three kids at home including a newborn and it knocks me out. My question is can they actually make u take a drug you're allergic to? And is there anything I can do to get my subutex back? If not taking it was an option I'd stop taking it but that is definitely not an option as I have been prescribed 14 mg for over a year. Please help me I can't continue the prednisone and benadry with suboxone any longer I'm snapping, depressed, can't stay awake and having horrible stomach pains please help me!
