yellow round pill, writing on one side 40, OP on the other side
Good luck to all pain patients !! I take the op's as prescribed, when I do take them they don't seem consistent, sometimes the relief I get is so minimal, I am housebound!! Sometimes I get such s high dose, I pass out. This is horrible, when is the FDA going to do something? When some poor, hurting person OD's? Why won't the FDA at the very least conduct more studies?? I know and understand this drug is hurting people , who are addicts but this drug is not meant for them but meant for hurting people!! God bless you all, I really hope there is something, before it's to late!!
Apotek is only available in Canada so if walgreens in Alaska has it it is only due to the proximity to Alaska and may not even be legal as it would not have been FDA approved. Unfortunately we can't all go to Alaska to get oc's and Canada requires a Canadien Dr. to write the script or put their signature on a USA Dr's script. Please stop posting places for drug addicts to get oc's. let them go to dope and OD. Leave the real pills for people that need them like myself, that take them the right way. I will agree the op's are terrible and put me into withdrawals, but once they build up after 3 weeks or so the op's work for most people. In my case they are extremely weak so I can't get out of bed some days and other days they are so strong I am nodding off. It's russian roullette every time I take my dose either I die of pain due to a lack of absorbtion or they are absorbed and are overpowerfull. I plead with pharmacists to avoid posting on this forum. I am not a regular user of the forum but it is easy to see it allows the illegal sale of narcotics and caters to drug addicts. In light of all the illegal activity on this sight I would request that pharm techs or anyone whom does not want to contribute to drug addicts to avoid posting anything on this site helping addicts to find the nearly extinct old formulation of OC's. I hate the OP's but would never help a drug addict find the old version since people such as myself truely need it. Buy stock in Watson as Opana is the best med to have your DR. switch you to a opana 40 is about the same as a OC 80. I believe they will have a huge boost in earnings this year as a direct result of opana being the best option to replace OCs and avoid taking a polymer that was only tested invitro on animals without human trials. Fentanyl, MS-contin are good time released or er meds to replace oc's as well. If a regular release or ir (instant release) med is suitable there are plent of oxycodone strenghts on the market with or without otc med combo such as percocet. Roxicodone is a good option or if a large dose is needed check if your insurance covers a compounding pharmacy. If they do your Dr can write any strength imediate rlease oxycodone in a powdered from contained in a gel capsule. I have met someone with 200 mg oxycodone capsules with pink poder inside. I do not buy or use pills illegaly however I was able to see the bottle they came in and it was legit oxycodone. These are the options. Hopefully the people that truely need meds will take my advice and switch meds if the OPs don't work and please call the FDA not purdue as they can take ops off the market and request the ocs to be manufactured again only if they have their phonelines flooded with complaints to thew point that they cannot function as an agency without dropping the ops and reapproving the ocs with stronger perscribing rsctrictions to cut down on abuse. I recomend they add cayyene pepper to the old ocs to cut out shooting or snorting with the only new bad side affect being indigestion and people can take tums for that. Again please don't help addicts find the little supply that is available even if you find them somewhere as they are no longer being made in the US but mostly by Mundi pharma worldwide with the old formulation. I hope all the true chronic pain patients find a good replacement for ocs as the ops are the only thing available in the usa. I understand the Alaskans good intentions but it would only help addicts if it were true but it is only available through apotex in Alaska and Canada. Apotex is a Canadian generic pharmecuetical maker / supplier.
A relative of mine took his first dose of 80mg op's.He got violently ill.His bp shot up to 210/100,according to the visiting nurse. He never had high blood pressure before. He had a stroke and he now resides in a nursing home. They need to take this garbage off the market and bring back the oc's
Alaskan - Your OC are coming in from Cananda where they will not have the new OP in stock till early new year....good luck !!!....by the way I am a Pharm Tec for Walgreen also..
Maybe this is just a money making ploy from the company to sell additional immediate release pain meds to compensate for the less effective new and improved OC's. Maybe the headaches are from the polymers binding and building up in the brain tissue.
It's the new and improved time release oxycontin. They're suppose to be less prone to abuse from crushing or chewing. Someone I know seems to think they're some sort of polymer infused formula. We should know what the side effects are of eating plastic are in a few years from now.
everybody call the fda 1-800-891-8295. I was told by a Phamacist, the fda would, if enough problems, stop the production of the op's, have perdue make the original oc's and test the op version further. WE ARE HUMANS, NOT RATS. AND for all the kids that are hooked on oc's, where are the parents at? Parents, push sports, music, school, art. BE IN YOUR KIDS LIVES!! BE A PARENT FIRST AND FREIND SECOND!!
Alaskan, Yes I do have a Walgreens here in Springfield, Ma. I went there and first there is a sign in the window stating We do not carry Oxycontin I went to the pharmacist and he said, he could get the oxy, in 2-days time. I asked him about the generic Oxycontin, he said to his knowlege there is only 1- company that produces it and thats perdue. He said that Perdue did make a generic and sold it via another company but no more. Perdue only makes the new OP and there maybe some of the old generics still in stock at various locations but when there gone, thats it!! He said because so many people had scripts that stated No generics there was a huge surplus of generics. When there gone, there gone. He also said contacting Perdue to file a complaint, if you are experiencing side effects is a good start but contacting the FDA is whats important!! The FDA and ONLY the FDA can stop production of the OP. and request Perdue to start producing the original medication while more controlled tests are done. THIS JUST SUX!!. Day 53 on the new OP, getting by, daily sour stomach, average pain level 6-8, irregular heartbeat. Im not an abuser, just a guy who had a doc screw me up, nerve and muscle pain. good luck to everybody!!
I would like to add to the discussion re: OP vs.OC. I am currently suffering from advanced M.S. and chronic afib and had been taking Oxy OC 40 mg for 6 mos. (legally) and had been content with the products efficacy. I recently received the Oxy OP 40 mg in replacement at the beginning of the month and immediately suspected changes and gained markedly less relief taking this product. In a great deal of pain in the mornings and constant headaches, I would rush to take the OC 40 and pray for relief as soon as humanly possible! With the OP 40 I wait and wait and wait, get minimal relief and wonder what's going on??? I am wholeheartedly supportive of any measures employed to curb abuse by illegal users, however the changes made from OC to OP are dramatic. I can't believe that the drug company and/or the FDA would go to these dramatic lengths without taking into effect the results provided by pain sufferers, i.e. legal users. I will next file a complaint with my pharmacist, my prescribing doctor, the drug company and the FDA. Unbelievable that I have to fight battles like this in this condition...
I know as a chronic pain patient I had to sign papers for only 1 dr. To prescribe them and 1 pharmacy to fill. That was also sent to insurance co to notify them if from anyone or anywhere else. So what do I do? Doubt if dr will up my dose to 80 mgs or drop to 40's cause I have already tried to change to 3 40's daily. Walgreen is in area but watson percs don't work for me. So I think dr won't write generic oc and name brand perks without thinking something is wrong. And also changing pharmacy.
.
Daniel and Barry, do you not have access to Walgreens ?
I just went to Walgreens and asked for Generic Oxycontin, and since my doctor did not indicate Name brand only I was able to get generics, sold by Apoxtex as Oxycodone ER, but is actually the original OC sold to Apotex by Perdue, and is made by Purdue. Walgreens in Muldoon. Some people that used to ask their doctor to put name brand only when others made generic Oxycontin to substandard quality now have to explain to the doctor why they now insist on generic, so a sharp doctor would assume you are sincere in hearing bad resuts with the OP or you are an abuser looking to chew or snort / shoot the original formula OC. But if your RX does not mention it must be brand name only you should have no issue requesting generic, but going to Walgreens armed with the info Apotex Oxycodone ER should let them know you are aware they have them. Personally I do not abuse the RX but heard so many negative reports on the OP I was not willing to try them, and my co-pay for generic is $15 versus $35 for name brand, ironic having to request generic Oxycontin in order to get the Purdue OC. For those who live outside of Walgreens area, rumor has it Kmart also sells the Purdue OC through a 3rd party. Good luck to all chronic pain patients seeking relief, this OP / OC mess is a disaster and will take many complaints from non abusers to fix. Hopefully the doctors will not misidentify real suffers with drug seeking RX holders. But for now, anyone within range of a Walgreens should look no farther into this, go get the Apotex Oxycodone ER and be happy.
so if i get a skript for oxycontin 80mg i can go to wallgeens and get oxycodone er? or do i need my dr to make my skript say oxycodone 80mg er
Hey Danial, Hang in there. Sorry to hear your in so much pain. There is many in the same boat as you, including me. Keep calling the FDA, Perdue!!
Ive had it!! 2- Monthes on the new oxy op. Ive got upset stomach, heartburn, minimal pain relief, headaches and nausia!! Ive called the FDA, Perdue, my Doctor and the pharmacist.. I have been accused of being an addict by people I dont know. I am in pain and am misserabl!! Next step... Nearest Bridge. I cant take the pain and all the side affects anymore!! Just Cant!! WHAT THE HECK CAN WE DO AS PAIN SUFFERERS THAT ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE NEW OP?? NOBODY CARES!!
Tony, hey i'm not sure if it is the new op doing this to my heart but i will be seeing my dr. about it on monday been only on the new op for 2 weeks now and about 12 days ago is when i noticed the palvatations starting .
also been reading through the forum there are alot of us who i believe truly are just everyday people whom are dealing with pain on a daily basis rather the new op are causing our pain to seem like its not going away at least enough so we can try and live our lifes i don't know only been taking the new ones for a couple of weeks have noticed i've been in more pain but am i just having a bad week or is it the new op aren't working that good only time will tell but as of now more worried about the heart palvatations see whats causing that problem first
xris - Apotex is the distributor, Purdue is the manufacturer, this is why even though it is the read deal original OC they are sold as Oxycodone ER since Apotex did not make them. The patent issues for the old generics do not apply here, as Purdue is selling to Apotex and selling through Walgreens. Call it what you want, but if you go to Walgreens, at least the Walgreens in Muldoon in Anchorage Alaska and ask for Generic Oxycontin you will get the original OC from Purdue listing Apotex as the manufacturer, although they are just a reseller, and it will be listed as Oxycodone ER, if you ask for Name Brand you get the new Purdue OP. After taking Oxycontin for 7 years each and every day it's pretty easy to recognize the original OC. The older generics that Purdue sued to get off the market were NOT of equal quality and should have been removed. It seems the deal with Apotex is just a way for Purdue to make money while appearing to care about the RX drug problem in the US. Sorry if my iroginal post offened you or anyone else, but if you read my post I never said Apotex made the pills, and as a first time viewer of this site I was taken aback by the perceived lack of respect people were showing one another. Good day.
HEARTS, wow I have had bad heart rhythms , feels like my hearts pounding out of my chest.. I've been to the doctor and he gave me an EKG, my blood pressure is like 185/122 today, I haven't thought of it to be linked to the new op, which I take 3x per day. I've been on the new op for 7 weeks now and yes I've had heart palps since about 6-7 weeks. Wow, now I'm afraid of taking the next dose..
just was wondering anyone else with the new op if you seem to be having heart palvatations with it since starting them my heart palvatations have been soooooo bad not sure if it's the new op or just me lol
First don't spat at people till u have your facts correct ----
OxyContin OR Oxycodone ER is a prescription pain medication. Although generic OxyContin was available and sold by various different manufacturers in the past, several legal battles have resulted in non availability of generic OxyContin. In fact, because generic OxyContin is no longer being made, most people will not have access to generic OxyContin
Brand-name OxyContin is made by Purdue Pharma L.P. and APOTEX does not make these pills you are implying..It is likely that there will be no generic versions of OxyContin until April 2013, when Purdue's patent for OxyContin is set to expire.
This is the earliest predictable date that generic OxyContin will become available again
