you need to get off of the fentanyl patches immediately!! i was on them (dr prescribed) and it ruined my life. hopefully you can find a dr who will be willing to titrate you off of the patches and on to something like a low dose of oxy to start with while you reduce patches until you aren't on the patches any longer... i found while on the patches, my pain went SKY HIGH and though it has been a long year, i am almost down to nothing on the oxy! :-) i had to be switched to a high dose from the patches so i know it will be hard to get off of them, but will be worth it!!

Itching is a sign of OD! your liver is not filtering out the drug. This is a good sign when you stop itching your are probably in liver failure.

@ Nun Becky:

I am with you on standing up for ourselves! I get tired of hearing about how someone snorts their narcotics, or how they sell them to make money, etc. I take my pills because DAMMIT I HURT!! I hurt every single day of my life...IF I can take something that makes me feel just a little bit better, then I will take it! So far the OPANA is okay, the 30mg dose makes me sleepy, and it does NOT help with the pain over a 7 on a scale from 1-10! I have outgrown Percocet, I am taking 2 1/2 pills that are 10/325 mgs each...They are barely touching my pain, because its getting worse with NO explanations! So for all of you who think that because we are taking NARCOTICS that we are "addicted" GO AWAY....you have NO idea how bad I hurt unless you walk in my shoes on a daily basis!! My LAST resort will be to get my Medical Maijuana License to smoke!

I would really like to know where you found your info on the drug Opana. I would like to print it off for my husbands Doctor and have my husband read it. Thanks for the info.

Fentynal doesn't work for me at all, my body metabolizes it too fast and oral Dilaudid didn't touch my pain...Now if it were the iv form...hell yea that works, but only temporarily! Really there isn't much out there that works for Chronic all over body pain, some of my pain is worse in places then others...it all depends on the person, what they can tolerate and what combination works the best for each person! Keep on trying different combo's, you will eventually find the right one that will work and stick to it...sometimes it takes awhile for it all to work...

Last year 2011 Medicare refused to pay for Oxycotin for me, because it was too expensive! I have since went up on my dosage of Opana to 30 mgs, they seem to work better and I still take the Percocet for breakthrough pain. I find that the more intense pain, the Opana doesn't work as well as the more milder pain!

Shelley, I was the original poster with the Mixed Connective Tissue Disease. Medicare is paying for the Oxycontin, but I am finding it is almost as expensive as the Avinza, so I go th my doctor Friday armed with research I have done and am asking him to switch me to Morphine Sulfate ER 30 MG Tablets. The difference in pricing is Avinza: $670.88 per month, Oxycontin 40 MG Tablets:$607.72 per month, and Morphine Sulfate 30 MG Tablets : $29.40 per month! This info hopefully will help me stay out of Medicare's donut hole which was my sole purpose in changing to begin with. I hope this info can help someone else in the same boat.
And to all those who were bashing me saying I am a trailer trash amam and a junkie, nothing could be further from the truth. I am a nun who just happens to have a terminal illness.

i started off my carreer of going to doc. over 35 years ago. at first it was just to get high, cause i was given demoral and fell compelely in love. for the next 18 years of my wasted life, i chase demoral. which inbeteen shots , i discoverd herion. then i crack my back while playing football, then the fybro set in, then came the hepitic, then came lung desease. looking back, the devil kept me entertain, and very high.but now, im 54, and have a little boy of 8yrs old. id give anything to be here for him, to watch him grow, and to discover life. but i wont be. i assure u that u will alway find plenty of reasons to stay on the devils food. but in the end, u will die! and it will b when u have reason to live. and like me, 35 yrs have past away. i was such a a**hole. convincing my self everyday, that i was in pain!!!! and i needed pain meds. it was a lie!! though i know that there are those that can barly walk, and i feel 4 u. but i cant express it enough, 35 YEARS LATER!!!!! WHEN I HAVE EVERYTHING TO LIVE 4, and because of yrs of doing narcodic, i live w/ pain lung desease, i only have 25% of my liver, fybro. and the list continues. what started off was me just wanting tht feeling of being high, and lying to doctors, has now become my way of life. there s so much to live 4. infact life is a gift. 4 those who find it and love it. do what ever it takes, run from tht evil. there truly is only one wasted out come. DEATH!!!!! U CAN LIVE!!W/OUT NARCARDIC

Have u considered trying OPANA 40 mg IN place OF OXYCONTIN? I switched when PURDUE changed their formulation, and they are twice AS strong, and also last twice AS long, AS they have a very long "afterlife" ! You will not have any problems finding it, and Medicare pays for it, I know, As I have it myself. They also make a immediate release, however, I've never tried it, but IF they work AS good AS the extended release does, you will have NO more issues! Hope this is helpful, good luck, and Godspeed!!!

Dude you are going to die very soon if you don't stop taking so much!!!! I have a spinal cord injury and huge amounts of chronic pain in my back and burning nerve pain in my legs. I took almost every pain killer in the book. I can tell you any opiate medication should only be taken on a short term (1 to 3 months max) bases or unless your going to die anyway and just want the rest of your short life to be less painful. I was taking 8, 40mg of Methadone a day 4 in the morning and 4 at night (320mg a day) along with Percocet 10/325 at the peek of my ignorance of taking opiate pain medication. It was hell coming off them but once I survived 3 months of agony I got my life back. No more ball and chain with pain pills. They were controlling my life and sapping the energy out of me. A lot of people take them for the high. I did not. I only took them to function and after taking them for about 4 months my body was dependent, in other words I was screwed. I didn't even know whether my pain was from my back and legs or just the symptoms of withdraw. Its a no win situation. I was only able to quit because I didn't take them for the high and that gave me more drive than most to stop taking them. So If you want to live for more then 5 to 10 more years I would detox off any and all opiate pain meds (unless used for a short time). Its the only way to enjoy your life without having to take a pill every few hours just so you don't suffer from withdraws. Now that my friends is a fate I wish on no one. I use Marinol 10mg (its a cannabinoid) for my pain now and it works wonders. It has no narcotic effect so no dependance on it. I can take it only when I have pain and not every freaken day just to keep the withdraws away. Any way STOP TAKING THAT JUNK MAN and move on with your life. You need to find an alternative to opiates or risk your life.

I am suffering from Mixed Connective Tissue Disease and have begun to go downhil pretty quickly. My Rheumatologist switched me from Fentanyl patches to Avinza 90MG but because I am on Medicare and do not want to end up in the donut hole, we switched to Oxycodone ER 40 MG. The pharmacist says no longer available, only Oxycontin. Is this drug expensive too? I really am concerned not only about costs but about the nickname "Hillbilly Heroin" that I have heard in reference to Oxycontin. Any thoughts?

I was also on Opana 40 mg because the Oxycontin 160 mg twice a day, 80mg +80mg =my 160 mg.. Anyway the new oxycontins are useless they messed up a very good medication. Getting back to where i was since the opana 40mg wasnt helping he wanted to try me on escalgo, i think thats how its spelled but again that as well no good. I'm back on the oxycontins were they help very little about half as they used to.
I also take Oxycodone 30 mg 1 tab 8 times a day, Now my powdered blues help A LOT !! thank god for those ones. I'm sorry that I was rolling and got off track.
Now i forgot whos ad i was answering. Does anyone else feel like a test subject for new narcotics ?
