How Long Does It Take Gabapentin To Get Out Of Your System (Page 2)

Updated

I was taking 300 mg neurontin. 1 in am, 1 at noon and 2 at bedtime. I was prescribed the med in May of 2013. Increased later when not helping with foot numbness. It has been almost 2 weeks since i tapered myself off of the drug and i still feel nausea in the am which affects my eating. Please advise how long it will take this med to be out of my system? Thank you.

i take this for neuropathy from nerve damage due to back injury. I take 300mg three times a day. It has really helped after only three weeks. I hear it is hard on liver but so far no side affects and the burning stinging and extreme toe sensitivity is so much better. Lyrica did not help any that I could tell but the neurotin or gaba has helped more than I can say. Maybe dose needs adjusting . They started me on 300 once a day for week then two a day for a week then topped me out at 3 a day which equals 900mg a day.

I first started taking Gab about 10 years ago for S1 nerve pain and it made me really depressed so I stopped.
10 years later and new doctors had me try it again and at first I thought it was working but after two months I started have what I think to be anxiety or panic attacks; something I never had before so I've stopped.
Maybe its helps some, but I need to work so I'm trying to live with the pain somehow

I know what you mean, I was having crying spells, just start crying for know reason and I'm 6'3 260 pounds, plus panic attacks. I've been taking this med for about 13 years and now I'm slowly weaning my way off this hell medicine. I've been weaning for about 4 months now and I still don't know whats really, it's like I'm out of my body, this is really some crazy ass medicine. Magnesium bath helps a lot with the withdrawals it really relaxes you. I was taking 600m 3 times a day now I'm taking 600mm 2 times a day with this Lexapro 10m crap for depression. Man I can't wait to get away from this stuff. Should be a law. All of it's worst than street drugs and alcohol. I pray that you have a safe trip getting of this medicine. I would like to stay in contact with you through these times

Maybe you were taking too much of it? What kind of effects was it having because you said you would never take it again? It saved me. I had pinched nerves or something and it worked miracles for me.

If u have restless leg syndrome go to walgreens. They sell leg cramp pills. It is for baby's for growing pains, no side effects. They work. I keep a bottle of them. Sometime I wake up because my legs hurt. I call them crazy legs. They just want to run away and I take two to four and twenty minutes later I'm back to sleep with no side effects.

Wow,I feel so stupid for thinking that Gabapenten was not a strong medication. I take 20mg Celexa and have been work working my way down slowly to 15mg then 10mg but,had been
Also taking Gabapenten 600mg twice a day, then went down to 300mg twice daily. In the meantime I've been adding in a quality Vitamin D,L-Tryptophan& easily digestible Magnesium,Vitamin C &Co-Q10&Tumeric. I'm really having even more Depression&Mood swings than usual. Like many I suffer from
Fibro,Lupus and Chronic Fatigue syndrome. I'm frustrated with all the side effects from taking the meds and trying to wean off them as well. Any suggestions would be great. It's sad to me that drs are reluctant to prescribe Soma anymore as they really worked for my muscle spasms&I only took them a 2-3 times a week

Sounds like you may be having symptoms of anxiety. A side affect that can happen when you stop taking gabapentin suddenly. I would consult your dr. About a possible short term antianxiety med as you get used to being off the drug

Allen ~ I assume your off GABA by now!! Maybe this will help someone else.
Yes, I had crying, major mood spikes, major irritability, can't sleep, feel manic, nausea..... I was taking for MS. 12 years on Neurotin. They started me on 3000mg daily!!!! Yup you heard right!!
I've since been told it should never be prescribed over 4000mg daily. I am a small frame person.
I became suicidal. That's all I thought about 24-7!!
After several months I finally got into a MS clinic at a major University in my area. The new Neuro lowered the dose!!! So I went down to 1200mg daily for 9-1/2 years. I am now on 600mg daily. It has stopped having any effect for me. I actually started today July 13, 2015 going off of it.
DO NOT go off cold turkey. Tapper the dose slowly. Your doctor can help with that!!! It helps with the sides effects not being as bad, plus you can have seizures.
I will admit the med was helping after taking the lower amount for sensory issues with the MS and some with the Fibromyalgia. Stats show it only helps around 10% of people with Fibro. I wouldn't try it with those low odds!! This is a older drug, and has its place for "some" people. Go on very slow dose to start, and as low amount as possible if anyone decides to use it. Remember everyone reacts differently to drugs etc.... With 2-diseases with no cure in site I feel like a genie pig and a some doc's love throwing drugs at people!!
Blessings to all ~ whatever path you may be traveling!

Hi Diana and thanks, I'm really sorry you're going through this. God bless you. No Im still on this drug I've been tapering off it since 2/2015. My doc put me on lexapro to help with the depression and those crazy crying spells now I have 2 drugs to withdraw from. Im only taking 1200mg of neurontin a day now but I'm still walking around in this crazy fog, and sometime I don't know what is real. It is mind blowing. I'm still taking magnesium bath, that helps. I heard it take some people 1 year to begin to feel better from this very evil drug, so I'm going to just be patient and try not to fight this process because darkness has an ending. Thanks for sharing, it was helpful. And may God keep you here with us and lets stay in touch

Yikes, you cannot start on a dose of 800mg! You should start on 50mg. No wonder you are so out of it. The dose should be increased very gradually. I used to feel a bit out of it on 75mg, but now take 150mg in the morning and 150mg at night, and I am fine. It is the ONLY thing that helps for my diabetic pain.

I have been taking this medicine (Gabapentin) for more than three years 2 - 300mg at bedtime and I've been in a nightmare for the last 2 years. It make me feel better knowing that it's not me but the medicine because i thought i was going crazy. This crap almost cost me my marriage.

Diana, I hope you are doing as well as possible. yes I'm still tapering off this med, I'm also taking lexapro it really helps a lot with all of the withdrawal systems that comes with neurontin, now I have to withdraw from this drug, that should be fun too. I'm gonna stay on the 600mg a day of neurontin til December and then go down to 550 I'm gonna go very slow because this is a very angry drug. I'm not jerking as much, the crying went a way thanks to the lexapro so that's cool,,but I'm still walking around in this fog, hope it's not the norm now. I'm also Vegan and that helps a lot. I'm really looking forward to that day when we are free from these meds. I'm back in the Gym and that's helps a lot. If the antidepressants starts to help a little bit, start moving your body as soon as you start feeling better, and start sweating the meds out and then take a magnesium bath it seems to help with these crazy withdrawals. What a ride and I can't wait to get off never felt like this, but just know it will get better just gonna take a while that's all. It's war and you have to fight. Hope this helped a little. I'm really going to be praying for you Diana. Hey God, Please remove these spirits of sickness from our bodies, put them some place else. Lets stay in contact.

I agree. I was given this medication for my back pain. I was taking it at bedtime for about a month. I also had to stop taking it. I've had terrible headaches and my head just doesn't feel right. I can't wait for this to clear out of my system. Only been a few days since I stopped taking it and I'm still feeling the effects. I can't wait to feel normal again.

I've been weaning my way off this neurontin since 2/2015. I feel better but I still feel like a stranger in my own head, just does not feel right. Just always know it's gonna get better. It took a while for us to get like this and it's gonna take a while for us to feel like our self. One guy said it took him a year to get back right, so we are going to have to be patient on this trip ride.
