How Long Before Testopel Pellets Start Working? (Page 2) (Top voted first)
UpdatedJust had Testopel pellets inserted in my backside. Forgot to ask doctor how long until they take effect. He's out of town.
According to my doctor you hit the highest level 4-5 days after insertion and then you are supposed to gradually come down from there.
Yes you can. I originally thought that you had to go to the doctor every week for shots also, so I quickly ruled out the shots initially as a visit to the doctor with an injection runs @ $150. When I had the lackluster results with the pellets I had to re-look at my options. I am in the exact same boat with my insurance so I was willing to give the shots a try. My insurance discounts a bottle of cypionate @ $85…and that is good for about 9-10 injections. You can also get the disposable needles at the pharmacist for about $.50 each. I was surprised by how easy and relatively idiot proof giving yourself a ‘test’ shot is. When I switched to injections I also added a half dose of arimidex twice a week to keep my estrogen level in check. Things are going pretty good now. Sometimes I think I may want to do the pellets again, but it is hard to justify the cost when what I am doing now is working well.
Sorry. The purpose of my post was to answer a question about how long the post-insertion pain lasts.
Mike: Wow!!!!! 20 pellets?????? Really? I get only ten (10) and wondered if I could possible go up to twelve (12) but my urologist said that -- in his opinion -- ten is the max that he uses. Doesn't believe anything more than that results in the good results outweighing the bad. I can last only 3 months before needing the 10 inserted again. PLEASE becareful regarding these side effects, especially the heart palpitations. The edema is definitely not a good sign, either. I wish you well.
I pay $75USD for a 10Ml vial of 200mg/ml Testosterone. I inject myself in the top of my thighs alternating with each injection. I generally inject 2 Ml every 2 weeks. At this dose, my level stays around 700. I use a 3ML syringe with a 22 gauge needle 1 1/2" in length.
Some folks have trouble watching themselves inject with that long, big bore needle but I don't mind too much.
I've read through 5 pages of the effects of T pellets and have not seen the effect I'm getting. First off I've had T issues all me life, born with out a teste and the other one never dropped like it should have, Went through shots when I was 13, , then patches on the sack, that would fall off, then the gel and now at 54 the pellets. Started with a 110 T level and it went to over 400, went to 12 pellets every 4 months an the T level is over 600. When I first started the pellets, the erections were much stronger than the gel. Now after the 4th pellet insertion, I not seeing the erections, there still is more sensitivity down stairs but I not the same results, now here is the side effect, ( no joke here, this is real). I'm alot more emotional than I have ever been in the past. ( not anger) The kids have always seen me layed back, but when we start watching movies, Netflixs, etc. I start crying like baby. really, the wife ( who I used to kid her on this) is having a field day. Has anyone ever experience this. My doctor says that any T med can give mood swings, Just have never dealt with this with any other type of T meds. Interested in some feed bck on this. As commented by many, it is comforting to talk about issues like this, with others whom are dealing with this. I
Just got my third Testopel imlpant yesterday. 12 pellets. My first time was 10 pellets, and this will make twice with 12. No comparison to the gels. Have used Androgel, and the last time,a cream from a compouning pharmacy.1/5 the price. With the first implant, I went thru a acne stage, luckily not on my face. But after a while that went away. Some sailing ever since. only thing I burn thru mine in 3 months. Which is aggravating. Use the cream on Androgel until dr. can get me back in for implants. At yesteday visit, Doc said he will now plan for implants ever 3 months, being he now has some history on me. What is bad, is when you T levels fall, afte being up, it takes 2 to 3 weeks to get back to feeling the same. Hope this was the last time of that. Went a month after my Testopel ran out, before I could get fresh implants. Used the cream, but not the same, at least not for me.On the testopel, my libido is like when I was in my mid 20'S.My desire, more stamina, more desire to give oral to my wife, which had completey went away, before the Testopel. I'm more regular, have lost weight, my knees no longer hurt. I can't say enough good things about it. So far blood work, all A ok.
I'm 52 years old. Active , and in fairly good shape.
Shrinkage can be minimized if your doctor knows what to have you take in the way of a natural supplement. Doctors trained in the BioTE method know how to minimize that as well as preventing gynecomastia* which can occur when T levels are increased.

Testopel has an additive in it that allowed it to be patented, PVC. Bioidentical testosterone is naturally occurring in nature (yams and soy) and therefore cannot be patented. Testopel's big sell is that they are FDA approved. But then so are lots of medications that are currently at the center if major law suits for very undesirable, even fatal side effects. BioTE certified practitioners are trained on how to correctly dose each individual, which is key to proper hormonal balance. The pellets used by BioTE have 32 years of research in establishing the exact parameters for proper absorption that should last 4-6 months, based on how physically active and how stressful their life is. Our pellets are held to a 2% variance, where most other pellets are allowed by the FDA a variance of anywhere from 10-30%. Testosterone therapy should improve sexual performance for men, unless there is a valvular issue, determined by whether or not an erection can be maintained while lying on their back. If a man is significantly low, it can take a couple of rounds for the HRT to take affect. Optimal post Total T levels are 800-1100, where a man will see the best results and least side effects, ie. acne and water weight gain which are both transient and treatable. BHRT provides breast( yes, men get breast cancer also, 5%. And they are more likely to die from it than women are), bone, brain, heart, and prostate protection.
More and more men are being estrogenized. Man boobs and wider, plumper hips. That is largely due to the amount of passive estrogens in water supplies and animals that are treated with estrogen. Cows for example are put on estrogen before going to market as they can gain up to 100#'s in a short time. Also given to increase milk production. Xenoestrogens leach out of many of our plastic drink containers, especially if they get hot. This is phenomenon is typically only seen in industrialized nations.
Let me add one last thing concerning T therapy....look into taking DIM(diindolymethane), it is a natural supplement and is very beneficial for men and women on HRT. It acts as a natural aromatase inhibitor, and for men specifically, it increases your leutinizing hormone, which helps in minimizing testicular shrinkage(if that is an issue for you). It helps estrogen metabolize down the 2-hydroxy estrone pathway(that's a good thing) and also frees up testosterone bound by SHBG.
Yes, it is available at some health food/vitamin stores. Whole Foods carries it. You can also get it online. Just be sure that the DIM you get is micronized.
I didn't really notice the increase until around the end of the 3rd week then BAM it kicked in and then i felt 22 again. I was around 184 to start. The wait is hard i know, but hang in there!
I had the testopel procedure done last week. 10 pellets. No major improvement yet. I was on Androgel for 8 months prior to having the pellets injected but achieved no major benefit from it. My initial t level was 220 with the help of androgel my levels increased to 400. I do see the benefits of testosterone replacement. I noticed improvement in focus, energy, drive to accomplish tasks around the house that I otherwise couldn't before trt.
Can anyone currently on testopel say how long it took for them to feel the initial benefits of testopel? Was it 1 week, 2 weeks or 4 weeks?
I'd also like to speak about the procedure itself my experience was a relatively painless one. Mild soreness for a few days nothing unbearable. No bruising and some mild discomfort when sitting on a hard surface. My office chair is just fine. I'm hoping to get my levels into the higher end of the normal range through testopel.
GrantJournal- Supply problem issues? 4 months overdue for a new implant? Is this doctor a general practitioner or a urologist who does a considerable amount of testosterone therapy? I'm scheduled for 14 pellet implant every 3 months. Been getting it on this schedule since 7/2014. If I have concern I'm seen right away. No supply excuses. My test goes up to 975 shortly after implant & by end of 3rd month it's around 640. Your doctor doesn't sound committed to T therapy. I'd find me a young-ish urologist who knows advantages of T therapy and puts your treatment and results as a priority. Good luck.
Mark, I have had mine 7 days today. I am not the same person. My T also ranged in the 150 to 200 range. The doctor started with 12 pellets, no pain during the insertion, and very little after the process. I started to notice a change on day two, by day I've I was ready to climb mountains. Have not felt this good in years. My energy level is high, libido is also high. ED seems to be a thing of the past, and most important is my moods have perked up. I wish I had done this a long time ago. Good luck, hope it work as good for you as it did for me.
Try asking your doctor to put you on an estrogen blocker as well, that worked for me I did testopel and it worked a little then dropped off quickly when I was put on estrogen blockers it lasted longer. Sometimes after your body has been producing low t for a while estrogen starts taking over the t actaully transforming it into estrogen, give that a try hope it helps.
did you go off the androgel before startng the pellets? I am afraid of the "crash" that comes when I stop the Androgel, but would like to try the pellets for time management and cost effectiveness
To update my post, the testopel worked well (almost immediately) but only lasted 3 months before the levels dropped off quickly. I never got to a high enough level for me to have my energy back. (yes, they can put in more pellets)
The pellets, mostly gone are still there.
I am now getting injections every other week (yes, going into the Dr. (nurse) is a waste of time).
The injections have raised my levels significantly.
I'm trying to get a stable level and will see which way to continue.
I was on testim and stopped when the testopel was inserted.
Using the gel in addition to the testopel was offered as an option for me.
Just finished first dose of Testopel. worked OK, didn't have any problem with pain, but only lasted about 3mos. I had been on injections, (self administered) for years with decent results, drawbacks are, alot of way high levels then fairly rapid drop off over a period of two weeks. Also, made my hemocrit levels high which resulted in bloodclots (DVTs) in my legs.
Couldn't stand the daily application of Testim or Androgel which didn't really do much anyway, and made my wife afraid to touch me.
Truthfully, I think the best results were obtained with injections, but the down side is I have to take warfarin and have to do the PT/INR tests all the time, not to mention of the physical dangers of blood thinners.
By the way I'm 59 and have been on testosterone replacement for about 8yrs.
