Detox Symptoms...........tremors In My Hands. Is This Normal
UpdatedI was on Percocet for 5 yrs for various areas of pain and arthritic knees. 6 weeks ago I went to Detox and was treated with Methadone. I am taking Ativan 1mg twice a day for the hand tremors. I am going to ask the Dr for 2mg because I still have these tremors. Help when will this subside or finally stop. I don't miss the Percs at all and I am finally free!

Lorraine yes you are off percocets, but now on methadone and already needing an increase in your ativan. You just traded 1 med for 2?
I think I may have mixed myself with my post I did detox 6 weeks ago. I was given Methadone. and now finished with that since I am hme. I had hand tremors and still have them. My PCP says he will give my 2mg of Ativan to ease my tremors.,
Hi Lorraine,
Congrats on getting off those medications! I'm sure it wasn't easy. From your description, I do get the sense that the tremors may be related to the detox symptoms from percocet and methadone, as an abrupt discontinuation of treatment could potentially open the door for a variety of adverse events… But only time will tell how long these symptoms might end up lasting for, since withdrawals are known to have varying degrees of intensity and duration. More-over, after 5 years on these medications, it might take longer for your body chemistry and its physiological/neurological processes to reach a higher level of homeostasis. These are just my thoughts on the matter. Please keep us posted on how the Ativan works out for your tremors.
I hope this helps!
This the second month on the Ativan and the have sobsided,The Dr say that I have made! the craving for the Perc are gone an life is good. Flushing Hospital Detx is the best decision I made. I feel so good except those tremor.............7 weeks clean!
That's great news! I'm happy to hear that things are looking up for you. Concerning your tremors, I don't know if they are nerve related, muscle related or blood pressure related, etc, but I have read some interesting articles discussing the therapeutic muscle relaxant effects of a plant by the name of nigella saliva (also referred to as black cumin seed oil); in that it possess spasmolytic (antispasmodic) effects that inhibit involuntary muscle movements. You can read more about the clinical trials on 'Table 2' in the link below:
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4387229
If the tremors are blood pressure related (as a result of discontinuing those medications), nigella saliva can also double as blood pressure lowering medication, according to NIH.gov at: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23436437
And it even triples as a neuroprotective agent for motor neurons: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23751360
If you're not noticing any additional improvement in the tremors over time, it would seem to me that something like this may be worth looking into? I recently started taking a tablespoon a day just a couple weeks ago for the health benefits and must say that it goes down pretty easy.
Hope this helps!
