Re: my post regarding FALLING down 9 stairs, anddwas given oxycontin er, which gave me zero pain relief....maybe it takes a while to build up in your system for pain relief, but I gave it a week then tried something else. I tore my rotator cuff, now have a vertebrae that is not not sitting on top of the one under it, its kind of tipping over, and, getting tested for torn hip ligaments and tendons. So yes, people like me and others do need pain meds just to do daily functions of life.
To anyone making judgements regarding need for pain meds, If you haven't walked a mile in my shoes, keep your erroneous judgements inside your head please.

Do you even realize how many people started abusing them. Its synthetic heroin...
tell your family members to get use to a different pain medication then....Oxys shouldnt ever be allowed on the market. its disgusting.

I was just prescribed oxycontin15mg ER from ms contin(due to side efffects) and have no pain relief whatsoever, which is actually helpful in determining that I am still in pain in certain body parts after walking down Stairs on my crutches, (as advised by my p.t.).will work with MD this week asap to determine best course of action. Don't ever walk down stairs with your crutches...I was careful and accidents happen

Does anyone really know what is in the coating of the new Oxycontins? Does it really contain fire retardents? If so, how can they legally poisin us. As for those who claim everyone who needs pain meds are junkies. 1) I was recently reinjured, took months to get a referral to specialist. 2) Hip Specialist tells me to see my back surgeon 3) Back Surgeon tells me to see my hip specialist. and vice versa. The only relief I got was from a Chriopractor which was only temporary, but at least made me feel alive again even if for a short period of time. 4) It's been 6 months and still just get jerked around by the specialist and now my Chiropractor says they can't see me unless I become a cash patient because they can't get any reimbursement from Medicare even though they say they cover Spinal Adjustments. 5) This is why people turn to pain medications. I am at a point to where I will go on the streets and get lidacaine and self inject. Can they really blame me? This is why people in chronic pain commit suicide. You finally get tired of being jerked around by Doctors who should be banning together to find a solution instead of pushing you out the door to another.

Im so sorry to hear about what you went threw on the op's i was prescribed oc's for about two years before they changed the formula i talked to my doctor we decided that i would try the 30mg oxcycodone and the 75 mcg. Pain patch not only for the pain relief but also because of the price i am a cash patient. I have been taking this dosage for about a year and a half now and it has killed my pain all together i dont get the high feeling but that is not a concern for me i just want the pain to go away so i can live a normal life. I hope thjs helps you a little bit. I know everyone is different and bodys reacts different but this is just something that have helped me. And also help my money situation cause those dame oc's and op's are crazy expensive if you dont have insurance.

Personally I hope the old ocs are brought back. For all the patients like my dad who ligitamitly need them. It worries me that in Perdue's effort to stop ppl from smoking them they added a fire retardant chemical that is also used in the inslation of homes. Doesnt seem to safe. I personally was on the other side of the coin and was addicted smoking oxys for yrs. Perdues decision to change the formula pushed me and everyone I know that was abusing to herion. I understand they were trying to stop abuse but really they just pushed the ppl abusing to a far more dangerous drug.

The only negative about the 30mg e.r tabs is they are snortable. So getting used to how they work may be a bad idea, being they will probably change the formula soon to an anit-abuse proof.

I can see from reading most of these comments, that they are written by drug abusers. I hope you guys know that you are the sole reason this stuff is on the market now. For the people who really need the medicine we're the ones to suffer. Thankfully I switched to oxycodone 30 mg E/R with same pain management effects as oxycontin 40mg og formula. For anyone that is currently on OP, and wants the same relief as the original oxycontins, I would def suggest oxycodone 30mg E.R. I'm on 8/day as needed, but there are lower doses that work just as good. I hope this helps to those of you who need it for chronic pain.

Lately, I've been getting really buzzed by my usual dose - only to have it wear off in just a couple hours and then, of course, I'm suffering withdraw symptoms for 6 hours till my next dose. It's as though the its releasing all at once! (I take one 20 mg OxyContin 3X daily.)

So, I've gone from the medicine working fine (original formula), to hardly working at all - and now, to this nonsense! Is anyone else experiencing this?!?

Don..i have to disagree as i know far too many patients on anti-depressants who feel the prescribed dose is not working and they double their dose seeking to feel 'good'.Its the same principle..only we have been told anti depressants are 'good' and opiate pain releivers are 'bad'.Thats the only difference. Both anti depressants and opiates change the brain chemistry that affects mood.

I was on Oxycontin for 5 years the brand and it allowed me to get threw a day feeling somewhat normal after i suffered damage to my spinal cord in 1999 and spent 3 years at Hershey Medical Center ll i was diagnosed, anyway getting to the point I knew about a week that something was wrong because I was in intense pain and the pills would not work that is when I found they had changed the formula I was 45 years old at that time and went to the Dentist 02/09 for my check up cleaning and x-rays and still had no cavities, however 2 years later after taking these new pills and now stronger pills in between to try and help I go to the Dentist and now have 20 cavities after 45 years of having a perfect record? The Pharmacutical company cares more about the drug addicts then the people who really depend on the medication to get threw a day and now tooth damage from the glue!! that they put in the pill to keep the addicts from using it!. In my opinion they really need to look at their priorities! So now I can not even eat right because of the medication go figure I lost my teeth and smile that I always tried to keep even for the pain because I always tried to look on the brighter side and knew I could be worse!
