Can certain over the counter medications or prescription medications cause a false positive for Methamphetamine in a blood test?

hey if you go to pain management and have a legal prescription of any narcotics then give them the complete list of everything you have took or taking even over the counter meds tell them everything an if you truly have never did meth and you know it was a false positive due too a crossover reaction drug you are taking then your test should come back fine like mine did the good news is the urine test they are gonna do is gonna be different from the one you failed they will look specifically for meth and break it down more so if meth is not there ur fine the bad news is idk what all there testing for if u have abused the drugs u was given than a special test can tell and more than likely they will cut u off ur meds and a hair test wouldn't do ya any good either only make matters worse if that's the case cuz it goes back 90days an u would be knee deep in s*** then but if u haven't abused ur meds an haven't did meth or anything illegal then a hair test is ur ticket out if the urine test comes back positive but if u are guilty then its best just too face the music not trying too scare ya just telln ya like it is hope this helps an best of luck god bless

I take most of the medicines you mentioned and as of today am in the exact same position! my pain management doctor told me I tested positive for Meth and I absolutely DO NOT do Meth! he is sending my urine to the lab. I am freaking out as my world will crumble around me and I will not be able to move due to chronic pain, if for some reason the lab says Meth is present. I am at a total loss for words!!!

I got a question for anybody who knows anything about a hair test how does it work? like does it go back 90days from the day the. hair was collected? or does it take a certain amount of time to get in your hair after you take a drug? the reason I ask is on the 6th I tested positive for meth and also tested positive on the 20th 4days ago I took a hair test yesterday I got my results everything came back negative so when I report to probation Monday and show them my results are they gonna say something to try and debunk my hair test the way they did my blood test and say something like it didn't have enough time to get in my hair so this doesn't prove you wasn't on meth those 2days I failed there urine test? or does my hair test prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that meth was not in my system during the time there test said I was positive? and prove that there test did in fact give me a false positive for meth both times and there is no debunking my hair test? thanks to anybody who can help answer this question for me

Thanks for the tip yea I'm researching a new alternative for heartburn that won't interfere with any test and I'll check more into prilosec its just a wonder zantac hasn't been sued over this by now or maybe they have they just been sweeping it under the rug so it won't effect there sales smh

To everyone wondering in may 2013 I was on a few things and got clean but method was never one of them I've been accused 3 times of this and I was insulted and angry. I have however been taking zantac aka ranitidine since I was 15 and it does indeed show as false positive in urine tests. I highly suggest prilosec aka omaprazol which is what I switched to and I've passed every urine test since then with flying colors

well folks just incase yall were wondering my hair test results got in today and it was a BIG NEGATIVE!!!! just like I knew it would be not a trace of any drug including meth the drug they tried to say I was on in my system. and it was a quick negative too got my results just in the neck of time I gotta report Monday now let them say I'm on something an try to get me in there classes to help me get off stuff that I'm not on smh now I'll take a heartburn class if they wanna give it lmao but after my fine is completely paid an I see there gonna still try to BS around an keep me some kina way I'll get a lawyer have him prove I'm not on drugs and he will get me released good luck to the rest of yall who are dealing with sorry ppl and had the misfortune to fall victim to zantac the way I did I hope you all get things straightened out god bless

and your right they never admit to there mistakes they got too much power take a lot of that power away an they won't feel so much like god anymore and start acting right its too serious people's lives are on the line this incompetent crap has got too end smh and I'm trying to find a reasonable lawyer now an see if I can get a petition for early termination after I prove thru hair meth or any other drug is nowhere present in my system or body cuz I'd rather put my money in something I need to get off rather than take there classes to get off something iv NEVER BEEN ON!! I'm drug free probation is what I need to get off my fine is just about paid I haven't did drugs or got in trouble in years idk what else to do other than what iv already done this system is a joke an needs fixing bad but I'm gonna let the hair speak volumes for me when I pass that what they gonna say next I'm David Copperfield an made the meth disappear from my hair? lol smh

Wow gaylene what a story that's awful what you have went through because of a false positive on a crappy test that's similar to what's happened to me I feel for certain now it was the zantac that caused it an that's downright scary the kind of people we got in power to be so incompetent that doc must of thought u was stupid I would of went public an had his ass for denying he prescribed it everything is all about money god help this world smh an glad u mentioned ur hair test came back clean cuz I think that's gonna be my next move cuz they said meth had time to leave my blood an that's y it was negative

I'm sorry this happened to you! After my*positive meth* test I went back in and talked to my Dr and had about 100 pages of people saying it was zantac/rantidine... He said your not on it... I pulled it out of my purse with his name on refilled few days before... Oh well no that cannot cause false positive... I said I want a lab request to get blood drawn. He wouldn't give it to me! So I went to walk in clinic where I got lab paper had blood drawn and what do you know NO meth and did hair test and samething it was clean! My dr is 30 min ferry ride away! Went backver with my results n showed him and the hair shows ip to 3months... I said so help me god if you pull this s*** again and don't try and help me clear my name I'm contact the media I'm gonna write to the paper! He looked at me funny.... I said without even asking me you were ready to cut me off of my meds which I cannot get out of bed with... I've got 9/3yr old kids n am single mother! I was going to use my dr test for court but cannot do so now! :( what's funny is they NEVER take credit or own their mistakes!!!

Yes it did help thanks for the reply since I made that post I did do a little research and found infact zantac does cause false positives for meth I wasn't sure the first test I failed what caused it some say red bull energy drinks can cause it too an I had a red bull the morning of my first test so the 2nd test I didn't have red bull an came back positive I knew it was 1 of the other 3 then I guess I should of not stopped after researching red bull but researched them all then I would of knew not to take any of them prior to the test but I thought red bull was my smoking gun turns out I was wrong it must have been the zantac all along iv heard dyphenhydromine that's in unisom can cause it but I'm leaning more towards the zantac iv done got a page from Wikipedia printed out about it and I will use it along with the blood test as my defense an even take a hair test if it comes down 2 it

Hi. The rantadine (zantac) will cause you to test positive for methamphetamine. My mother is also prescribed to rantadine and had a similar incident. I'm sorry this happened to you but do a little research and I hope this helped u as much as possible. God bless.

I took a urine test the other day an it came back positive for meth I have never did meth in my life so I offered to take a blood test to show I wasn't on meth an sure enough the blood test came back negative well after I got the lab results I went to see my probation officer they did another urine test it came back positive and I had just got transferred there too so they told me I can take drug classes or they will send me back to where I came from so I said just send me back I'm not admitting to something I didn't do even if it means jail so when I got to my old probation office they told me my officer will see me in the morning at 8am so I leaves 40min later they called me on the phone an said to not come in the morning but to come Monday at 8am which was a few days away I said ok next morning my probation officer calls me but I missed it so I called back left a message an didn't waste no time I went to his office he wanted me to admit i used drugs which I refused because I haven't used any an he said he was gonna test me an if I was dirty I'm going to jail an gave me one last chance to come clean I said that's fine I'll take the test so I did an it came back clean so I gotta meet with him again in a few days but after I failed the 2nd urine test I stopped taking BC headache powder unisom an zantac an the 3rd test was clean the one I took after I stopped taking the over the counter stuff the blood test was clean because unlike the urine it looks specifically for meth which was simply not present in my system so I know it was one of the 3 over the counter meds that I had taken "BC headache powder" "unisom" "zantac 150" so my question is which one of these 3 caused it?

i have court in 2 days and i was arrested jan2 2014.and they swobed my mouth an it camnd it came up meth hows is that possible i dont do drugs. came up meth also i pee in a cup but very very little. i take alot of meds it came up meth so they say. what should i do in court.

I just took a urine test for a job and tested positive for THC..I do not smoke marijuana...the only thing I take is vitamin supplements and Garcinia Cambogia...is it possible that this made me test positive

I just went to DR and was told I Tested Post for Meth! I've never SEEN meth before!! I was given Mylan-Beclo AQ Nasal Spray.. I take Rantinidine 150 2/day.. Cetirizine 20mg 1/bed.. 30mg MS Morphine.. Gabapentin 300mg 4/day.. Baclofen 10mg 3/day..... My Dr said that if my test today was fine and the one next week I have to go back for I would be fine! He never said I could be cause of any of these meds! I just googled and found this... Sooo how do I explain its because of these meds I'm on that everyone says causes false positives?
