As with any medication, it is successful at helping some people, but not all.

Vicoprofen contains Hydrocodone and Ibuprofen, this combines a potent narcotic with a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory.

Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Has anyone else tried this medication?

I have been using it on and off for about 3 months now. I switch off between vicoprofen and percocet< as not to become opiod tolerant to one specific opiod. I read this was a good thing to do. I do feel it is a good medication for pain, but i do feel a tolerance to it is inevitable. Does anyone have suggestions?

Verwon, the link you gave me was for vicodin, not vicoprofen.

Barbar, you have my sincere apologies. I was afraid I was going to end up doing something like that.

My laptop died and I have had to work, for the past 2 days, from computer systems that I am not familiar with, so I am not surprised and am certain I've also made several typos.

Here is the correct link, thanks for letting me know about the error, it is much appreciated!

Can't wait for my new laptop to arrive, so I can set it up the way I like it!!!

I have several problems with my back namely scoliosis, herniated disk and spinal stenosis and have been taking Vicoprofen 7.5/200 mg for about a month now. I was looking at the idea of steroid injections, but they have a lot of dangers and I cannot get a ride home (required) after the injection.

Hi Diane, I too, have the same issues as you, scoliosis, herniated discs (1 in neck and one in lower back) and i also have stenosis. I have been taking the vicoprofen for about 3 months now and it help[s. Dr added zanaflex in the evening. I have had the steroid injections twice.... help a little but nothing great. I did drive myself home both times... no real side effects other than soreness at the injection sites. Do you find that the vicoprofen helps you? what else have you tried?

Barbar, I have been taking the vicoprofen for about 2 months now and yes it does help somewhat, but when I take it too often, it seems my body gets a little too used to it and does not release the pain as much. I actually have a couple of low grade injections planned for September and hope this will also help me because I took off work for over 2 weeks and cannot afford to do this constantly. My Doctor hesitates to give me a refill for the vicoprofen saying it is addictive, but I really believe you can control this. I don't wake up every morning with the need to take it unless I am in pain. An added suggestion if your doctor approves, I also take 2 advil with the vicoprofen, it seems to help with the pain. Hope you feel better!

Hi Diane, i feel the same way about the vicoprofen, you due build up a tolerance to it rather quickly. I had previously been taking percocet which is stroger, so i was glad to take a step down. My pain Mgmt dr has no problem giving me refills but all drs are different. I dont think i am addicted either, although i do take it regularly for pain...never for no reason. good luck to you also. Barbara

hope the injections go well for you all did not for me....steroid have upset my whole system and had to have a scope done on the stomach...seems the antibiotic they gave is what upset things and now the steroid are wrecking some havoc with my hormones....they say they are such slow release that you shouldn't have effects but some do....i have found others who stayed sick for eight months whiile they wore off......pain relief was 100% but wore off by week three to 40% now the only relief i have from injections is some peripheral pain down the legs but all local pain is back....was nice to out of pain for a while and to know that i can possibly affect this myself thru excersise...we'll see....the more i tighten my abdominal muscles the less pain in feel in the hip so that shows me something right there....also most people do not have these side effects and yes it sucks .....also do research for these steroid injections are prohibited by the drug companies for this type of injection into this space of the spinal sacs (hope i explained that right...i don't know all the technical terms for this area)
they say it is dangerous and not intended for this use.....and if not done right some are more damaged from misplacement of needle and drug going into wrong areas....so do some research...

I had the 1st steriod injection a few weeks ago and my 2nd one is this Friday. I haven't had to take any vicoprofen's since the first injection and only took a few advils in the last few weeks. May pain almost totally disappeared and what a surprise that I could finally sleep thru the nite. I find that keeping an upbeat attitude and a lot of walking helps me feel a lot more limber. I will let you know how the 2nd injection goes....I have done research on the injections and it appears that a lot of problems occur during the procedure when they only give a local.patient can have muscle spasms during the procedure, which can make the injection go awry...I'm given anesthesia and I have one of the top pain specialists in the State (lucky I guess!). The one thing I don't like is how long it takes to recover from the ordeal....felt like an invalid...but the end result is great! I'm sorry you are not feeling well, but try to stay positive...there are a lot of foods out there which can alleviate the inflammation, go online and look up these foods, such as a handful of almonds a day, chamomile tea, try to get on a regular regimen of these inflammation fighting foods...I am sorry you are not feeling well, hope this information is of help...take care and God Bless....

thanks diane

so glad yours has gone well.....i have a top back doctor here in houston...did orginal back surgery on me in '84 and it was a law suit and thank god i had him for the law suite there was a supposed top notch doc at the time for the houston oilers who did the second opinion and whoa he wanted fusion and more and said i would not do well...thank god jones was my pick...my response is totally to the antibiotic and the steroids....we are all made different plus also i could have it again and never have this reaction again....some have this done 2 to 3 times with success then whoa the 3 or 4th time doesen't go well....not sure after reading and studying the pharmeceutical literature of this not even being allowed for this type of injection that i would try again....i am a natural girl....boswellia and chamomile and homeopathic...i have a homeopathic dr here in houston who is a liscensed md in texas and new mexico but sometimes the body degenerates to a point and this has....problem with natural is all of our breakdowns in our physical system are different....as in my breakdown might be the pancreas and an enzyme lacking or totally something genetic has kicked in and must find how to turn it off....we are trying....i don't want a hip replacement...sigh....problem is i need something for this pain and got this qualitest brand that does not work....so counting the days till they run out....i can get another doc to write a prescription but even generics at two a day will run me 80 dollars for insurance will not fill two in a month....

so glad you feel good....i recovered immediately as far as walking and such....had total movement and could climb stairs again and dance...boogie woogie lol.....but that only lasted around three weeks...i am at about 15 percent relief so that is good for all this sickness from the steroids....

You are so right, everyone's body is so different....and we react in different ways to disease and medical problems......no 2 cases are alike. When I found out my problems started when I was a child and we had no medical help in finding these problems early, there was probably nothing I could do...doctors think my scoliosis and spinal stenosis are hereditary. It does not matter how this happened, I know there is nothing I can do about it at this time except try to control the pain. My pain specialist told me my problems are very common in people over 50...which doesn't make me feel any better, but I take one day at a time...baby steps...hope you feel better and I will let you know how the 2nd injection goes. Thank you for your kind words....God will reward you someday soon for your kindness...feel better....

Diane

hope you are still pain free and moving around more by now......I am still in my pain but the pharmacy contacted my doctor after i enlightened them of the brand of vicoprofen not setting well nor working well with me and she wrote another prescription and the pharmacy called me to pick it and it was on them....at their expense....i was very impressed that they handled it this way....sometimes things do work right ....i still made sure they were aware that qualitest vicoprophen is not worthy of being given even to your worst enemy and got their word that if anyone complained there would validate them since knowing of me.....i am composing letters to the fda and another agency over gerneric drugs and have written teva and qualitest...so we will see.....i have found only six people online who say the same so not much to fight with ...the thing is that i have heard of blood pressure generic meds and other way more important generic meds (important as far as life threatening) that did not work the same as name brand or other generics and this is not right.....of course we are expendable to these companies....they loose people to meds all day long but at least we should be getting what we are suppose to get....oh well sigh,,,,
first day in two weeks i have not been nauseated and i am blessed and so are you diane ....you go girl and do well...love and light

I am so happy you are feeling better. I know pain can depress you and take over your whole life. I had my second injection this past Friday...today is Monday and I am feeling pretty well....so far. The dr said only 10% of his patients have this relief so soon and that most of his patients have to go thru 3-4 injections to get ANY relief. I consider myself very lucky....the dr said he will cancel my third injection (yeah!) and now we have to focus on keeping me pain free...
I'm glad you are writing letters, these companies have no knowledge of these problems unless someone contacts them....you have a lot of drive! YOU GO GIRL....have a blessed day! Diane

I have questions of the ones who've had steroid injections. Are these the epidural-type or intramuscular? I have one disc, C6, gone and C7 is bulging and pinching a nerve. The pain is intolerable...I've not slept in nearly a month. Dr recommended fusion, but I do NOT want spinal surgery. However, if the epidural steroid injections are a slow and only temporary relief, I may reconsider. The experience is wearing me down. I'm taking vicoprofen, but the normal dosage is not enough and I'm concerned of the impact on liver and kidneys, etc. I have to work so anything stronger isn't an option. I'm in Houston. Do any of you see Dr Richard Francis? Surgery is scary; spinal surgery is terrifying! I've also started getting weird leg cramps in the front of legs and my feet. Anyone else experiencing this? Is it from the disc or meds? Thanks for feedback and I wish you all to be free of pain!

Try using suboxone. Small amount under young adds pain relief and helps prevent additional amounts of meds. I have been on time release dilaudid and a morphine for break through for several years..with the sub I have had 3 med reductions at my request and several times a year I don't take any meds for a few years to watch for withdrawal. By his grace doing well!

Sorry auto correct, suboxone goes under tongue and I don't take them for a few days to watch for withdrawal at least 72 hours to ensure no half life and really see what my body does..

I took Vicoprofen 7.5 mg and changed to Norco 10 and I would like to go back to Vicoprofen 10mg. I had gastric bypass and Tylenol is not good for me. Has anyone ever tried the 10mg Vicoprofen? I don't want to feel weird, but can't walk without stumbling.
