Tooth Decay And Soft Enamel On Teeth-30 Mg. Oxycodone

I was assaulted resulting in all ribs broken on L side and damage to Pelvic Bone. I was prescribed 3 10/325 oxycodone, and took them for about 10 months. I suddenly noticed small black or brown lines at the gum line. I took a dental tool (sold at local pharmacy) to see what it was and realized the enamel was so soft I could easily just scrape it off. I went to my DDS and she was horrified as I had had an appointed right before the injury and my teeth were normal. Now I see dark brown areas around the majority of my teeth at the gum line. I am on Social Security which leaves no $ for dental work. Has anyone attempted any kind of cure in an attempt to stop the progression? I was thinking like Vit C or anything. I have been off them 2 mos. and plan to see DDS soon, but from reading this forum, I am really afraid of what the DDS will tell me has to be done. I don't want to smile, or really see anyone bc it is so horrendous to look at. Please advise if anyone has been able to stop the progression of damage or repair with remineralization of the teeth. I would be interested in a legal suit as I see no warning of this being a side affect. Any help or suggestions? I am totally panic stricken about my teeth as I have no $ for dental procedures. I have never been on a forum before so I'm not sure where to look for any answers to my post. I will have more info after my DDS visit, but initially she said dry mouth can cause something like this. She didn't know at the time I had been taking Oxycodone.

Hello, Liz! How are you? I am very sorry about the dental problems that you're having.

Oxycodone can cause dry mouth, as well as leach some minerals from the body. People that take such medications on a long-term ongoing basis frequently end up with severe dental problems.

You can basically arrest the progression by stopping the medication, but your teeth won't heal, per se. You'll need to have them treated by your dentist.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Cant afford dentist who quoted 40,000 to fix correctly. There are about 350 posts here from people with same problem we are trying to make a legal suit for some kind of compensation as this is wrong. In the meantime, take the mouthwash they make now for dry mouth as often as possible its called biotin. It wont reverse the damage but may help prevent further damage. I wish I had known this earlier as it is the change in the ph balance in your mouth and the dry mouth syndrome that is causing your teeth to rot from the inside out. I was once a pretty woman. Now on top of suffering with MS I now suffer with this too. No other medication works for me either, not without serious side effects. Climb on the train my friend. Maybe we can do something about this after all!
