Teva Lorazepam Reviews (Page 8) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI'm seeking insights and reviews on Teva Lorazepam and its comparison with Leading Pharma's version. There's a notable divide in user experiences. Some report Leading Pharma Lorazepam as being less effective or having no effect, possibly due to variations in the active ingredient, leading to side effects or adverse reactions in certain cases.
While there are those who recommend Teva Lorazepam for its efficacy, others find Leading Pharma's version more suitable. Unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to try Teva Lorazepam since it's not available in my area – no local pharmacies dispense it.
My experience with other brands, post the discontinuation of Qualitest, hasn't been successful in finding a comparable alternative. I'm particularly interested in understanding how Teva Lorazepam and Leading Pharma's lorazepam differ in terms of effectiveness and user satisfaction.
If you've had experiences with either or both of these medications, your reviews would be incredibly valuable. Any insights into their efficacy, side effects, or overall satisfaction would greatly help me and others in our decisions.
Re: Marcus (# 305)
Yes I also experienced the same thing with teva. today I also filed a complaint at [email protected] and they replied to it. Hopefully with so many complaints, they can understand
Re: Jibbs55 (# 312)
Hi,
Thanks very much. I tried Aurobindo a long time ago, and I might try it again as the brand is not what it used to be at all. I can't describe it, but the times I took my last few Watson tablets, I just felt normal in my head. And I've been so uncomfortable since stopping them.
My doctor would never prescribe a new script until one runs out. The timing was such that it was time to refill when I got the name-brand, and she even purposefully did it for only two weeks in case it doesn't work out. You can also ask the pharmacy to dispense less than the full amount. I'm in the US too. I know how much trouble people give you about benzos—the same industry that caused the trouble. I've asked before about getting gabapentin to help withdraw from the benzos, and my doctor won't even prescribe that because it's now a controlled substance in my state. She'll only keep me at the dose I've been on, which has been for many, many years, so I'm tolerant to it--even before the fiasco with switching brands.
Re: Richard h (# 292)
Richard, hope you come back to the group. Always appreciated your experience and your insights. Curious to hear your thoughts on Teva. Had taken it for a few days and then finished the Aurobindo I had left. Been back on Teva 2 days and mixed results so far, always takes me several days to adjust. Takes longer to kick in, been having headaches, sleep has actually been better, mostly effective for anxiety.
Re: joe (# 320)
I'm almost sure Mylan shut down the plant in Morgantown, West Virginia where it was made. They put a lot of people out of work. That was the same thing that happened with Qualitest which was another good generic of lorazepam. They had a plant in Alabama they shut down after they were bought out. Both Mylan and Qualitest were better than the new brand name by far, and better than the Actavis Watson tablets. Qualitest was even better than Mylan per my recollection.
Mylan became Viatris. They still make (or own the company that makes) Xanax.
To the other posters mentioning benzos being taken off the market, I doubt it. If I could go back in time, I would have never started on benzos. So I am not saying they should be on the market the way they are, but I am where I am. But I say that I doubt they'll be taken off because people like Stephen Stahl who writes probably the most used psychopharmacology textbook in psychiatry still promote benzodiazepines. No one really seemed to care much about benzodiazepines until the opioid epidemic, and then the benzos became collateral damage. All the knowledge about benzodiazepine problems existed before the opioid epidemic; it's just that doctors didn't really seem to care about those problems that much. Maybe if there were a new class of drug to take its place the field would move on, but there really hasn't been a new class of psychiatric drug in a long time. The fact that benzos are getting rebranded with XR versions and still sold as the brand name when they first came out in the 1960s makes me think they aren't going anywhere fast.
Why Ativan out of all of them has become a carousel drug may just be bad luck. I take three other prescriptions and all have been the same brand for years. It's only Ativan that changes every couple of years. But it's not the most notorious by far, a title which I think belongs to Xanax, and Xanax has stayed with the same manufacturer for years, with a co-pay card, still actively advertised, etc. I can't think why anyone would go after Ativan in particular. It just may be that it's less popular so there is less incentive for companies to keep it when they make business changes or just bad luck.
Re: joe (# 326)
So it was actually about 20 years before Mylan stopped making lorazepam this anti-trust suit was settled (Mylan has since became part of Viatris). It was a legit anti-trust lawsuit as Mylan used it's clout to control the market of these two drugs to push the prices way up. You can read the details at the link:

Re: gsrmike98 (# 319)
No way it’s the same. I have been taking actavis/ Watson for years. Now switched to TEVA and it’s complete trash. I feel horrible.
Re: Lex (# 334)
If you can find an independent pharmacy near you it's a possibility they will order a specific company's generic lorazepam. As far as I can see there are now only 3 company's selling lorazepam in the US/Canada: Teva, Leading and Aurobindo (also the brand name Ativan- I take that and would recommend trying to get a prior authorization from your insurance). Of those 3 generics Aurobindo anecdotally seems to have the best feedback. I would try to get an independent pharmacy to order their lorazepam to try.
Re: Lex (# 337)
Probably cheaper. The little I know of how the pharmacy wholesalers work is they bid on large lots of medications. If Teva is winning the lorazepam bids that's what they stock.
Many here have said that Aurobindo has been the hardest to find, but seems to anecdotally be the one that works best.
This seems to be the only live link, I opened a new topic entitled Lorazepam's Future. Been on this med for 30 years, my head doctor has prescribed lorazepam with no problems until last week. She called and I thought she was having a seizure, she apparently got a general letter from the DEA which warned of lorazepam and opiodes taken together.
I have never taken the other nor have I asked her to order them for me. She sounded like she was out of breath and kept insisting that I have to taper down, couldn't make much sense of anything else. Called my family doctor to see if I could get an understanding for this very unprofessional behavior by my other doctor. He explained that the DEA sends out a yearly letter and in this one came a warning about people taking opioids and lorazepam together and telling doctors about cutting back to no more than 1 mg a day for their patients. I will no doubt be looking for another doctor but am curious to see if any one out their has been given this treatment or am I the only one who has an idiot for a doctor?
Re: joe (# 348)
Well I'll let you know, i have my 3 month follow up with my doctor next week. The dangers of mixing Benzodiazepines with opiates, alcohol or barbiturates was established like 50+ years ago. For a patient that isn't being prescribed opiates there isn't a concern.
I think it's your doctor and as awful as I sound for saying it, you said "she". I only have male doctors now. I can talk all day of the problems i've had with female doctors, PA's and NP's; one in particular who discharged me from the hospital with a heartburn diagnosis when I had 3 severe coronary artery blockages. Get a male doctor my friend, I can't stress it enough.
Re: joe (# 348)
No you're not the only one that's been down this trail with Pdoc's and regular pcp's, etc. Like you I'm not on any opiates or pain killers. I take what I'm prescribed as far as the Lorazepam. As I've said out here few times or so the medical field is cracking down on benzos. Not just some of us up in age but young folks too. Many will-not prescribe them under any terms. The main gripe is possible dementia, slips and falling along with other cognitive and motor skill behaviors. Since my doc I had for almost 20 years retired my life has been living in shame being on this drug. If you're ex military it's even worst. Every check-up is the lecture I get about being on this medicine. I tried everything there is to take to control the anxiety I deal with.
So what Henry said they've already established the concerns of mixing the two together. That's a no-brainer. But to come at you like she did is nothing but pure bull. I don't want to freak you out but don't be surprised if your primary will not prescribe it to you or you have a hard time finding another psychiatrist that will. I've lost countless years of my life due to unnecessary stress cause by this foolishness. They know for many of us this is the only medication that works for us. My Pdoc is pretty cool but he still wants me along with any other patient he has off. This is straight across the board Military and VA.
If any of you are veterans on a benzo tell me if you haven't experience this. If not what state are you in. I've gotten this behavior on both coasts. My daughter is on Klonopin 1.5 mgs a day and she's get the same treatment. Another family member retired military like me is on 2mgs same drug. Ex combat veteran. So not picking on the one individual that has said out here there's no way they'll remove benzos doesn't have a clue. I wish you luck Joe. Hope you find someone else that will prescribe it to you that has a backbone. You'll start finding the pharmacist are more app to call your prescriber and ask why is this individual on this medication. Been through all of this trash. The worst part is having people posting out here the different generics we're taking that don't work is all in our heads. Wish all of you the best.
Re: Marcus (# 347)
I can tell you that Aurobindo worked better for me then "Brand" Ativan. I've had every maker of brand that's been made. With all the different companies making it. For me I'd save my money and stay with Aurobindo. Aurobindo works longer and always has a calming effect that's close to the original brand from Wyeth. Nobody so far has been able to touch the very original from Wyeth. But of course your body might react to them different.
Re: Jibbs55 (# 344)
yes you are right that they only care about profit than quality. aurobindo sometimes not all pharmacies have it. I still filed a complaint with Teva and they are currently complaining about the 0.5mg because they asked me about it even though I was complaining about the 1mg. hopefully with a lot of complaints they can return the actavis formula
Re: Lex (# 352)
May I ask if you had a bad reaction to the Teva one mg? I had an allergic reaction and so I'm trying to find an alternative brand.
Re: Jibbs55 (# 355)
Yeah, unfortunately my doctor is very against gabapentin. I pushed that as hard as I could. In my state it became a controlled substance (the lowest level controlled substance), and I guess they don't want it on their record along with prescribing a benzo at the same time, even though I've read they are safe together and help you come off benzos.
It is all very sad. The whole story is sadder believe it or not. But I guess everybody's is.
Re: Larry (# 362)
teva says the composition is the same as watson but for me it's different. so far aurobindo is still better than teva
Re: Henry (# 367)
I literally called about 15 pharmacies yesterday. The pharmacists that would engage with me said they went to the distribution Co.. one said they had it but they sometimes reject the Pharmacies orders??? And the other distribution center has the product name but no product and doesn't even say when it might come in..
Re: Teresa (# 368)
Contact Aurobindo USA in New Jersey. It’s still active in their catalog. Also, a drug manufacturer needs to notify the FDA of a product discontinuation, which They have not done. I doubt the product is being discontinued. I’ve been fortunate to be able to get it regularly. So, they could be experiencing some shortages that may be regional. As someone else had mentioned, they do not update ASHP on product status.
Re: Lex (# 371)
Hi y'all, we all know what Mylan did like 5 years ago. First they were out of one strength then another and poof it was gone. Y'all hang onto your seats cause I'd bet Aurobindo is saying goodbye to lorazepam. I haven't seen it in any VA or Military base. Hope I'm wrong but it's better to be prepared for the worst. Still telling y'all they're going to eliminate benzos all together eventually.
