Sulfamethtmp Ds Tab

My aunt was prescribed this medication and took it for five days until a rash developed in her lower extremities and also developed blisters in her mouth. She went back to consult her doctor of her reaction to the medication. Her doc immediatelly sent her to the hospital. They did a blood test and her plaque count is at 200 when normal is between 2000 and 4000. They said they have to keep her for at least 2 days. I know that internal bleeding is a huge concern. Can u tell me what is going on? I know that one of the rare side effects of this medication is blood disorders. Can you tell me how long this condition will last? How likely is it for her to get back to her strng healthy self?

Unfortunately, I really have no way to answer those questions. Has her doctor given any prognosis?

Yes, Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim can cause some blood disorders, which can be dangerous. However, whether or not they will be a permanent problem is usually only something that can be discovered with time and monitoring of the patient.

Some people will experience a complete recovery, as soon as the medication is cleared from their body and some people will not, there is just really no way to know.
