Short Term Use Of Eliquis
UpdatedIn September 2015 and in June 2016 I developed a blot clot in a superficial vein in my right quadricep. Both resolved themselves. Because I was scheduled to fly my vascular surgeon sent me to a benign hematologist who proposed I take 2.5 mg of the drug two hours before a flight and a second dose twelve hours after the first. I followed the doctor's directions and was fine.
I recently consulted once more with the doctor as I am scheduled to travel to Asia (a 15 hour flight) and will have several inter-city flights before returning back home. Since I will be away for two weeks and have three inter-city flights (one approximately every three days) the doctor suggested I take 2.5 mg twice a day for the duration of the trip.
I'm a bit nervous about going on the drug for two weeks as it is a powerful drug with many potential side effects. Your thoughts please.

For the best and safest possible outcome, you should follow your doctor's instructions, they are only trying to help you.
The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding, and easy bruising.
Many people take it for far longer periods of time.
Are you on any other medications?
