Severe Gum Swelling/pain - Amoxicillin

I have a gum infection due to my wisdom tooth growing in but it is just the gum, not my tooth. I was in pain and my dentist told me to take Amoxicillin, he also told me that it may be painful and that i should take advil with it if i cant bare the pain. It has now been 1 day and i have taken 3 Amoxicillin pills in total. I woke up this morning and my gum was very swollen and in a lot of pain. I am also having a very rough time swallowing anything, even my own saliva. I wanted to know if it's normal for my gum to be in this much pain after 1 day of taking the drug and if it should decrease the more I take Amoxicillin (3 times a day)? I can see that my gum has increased in swelling/pain ever since I have taken the drug, my pain was not this bad 2 days ago before I even went to the dentist.

If the tooth is still growing in, the gum could still experience some more irritation.

The general rule for antibiotics is you should see no worsening after taking them for 24 hours and then improvement after 72 hours, but as I said, you've got the tooth coming in that's causing the problem.

However, if it keeps getting worse, you need to return to your dentist.
