Post Menopausal Provera Thick Lining

Updated

I am 62, post menopausal, have thickening of endo lining and spot bleeding. I am on provera and it has stopped the spotting. I forgot to take it for 2 days. I started spitting again. Now I am back on it faithfully and am not spotting. Is this medicine to help thin my lining out or just stop spot bleeding? Will I have to take it for the rest of my life? Does it shed the thick lining? I have no cancer. My clinic primary sent me to a teaching hospital clinic to see and endocrinologist to see why my lining has thickened but the gyn put me on provera. I am confused because they never let me see an endo. Can you help me to understand. I am no longer in that state so have no medical connection. I have 2 more months left of the provera to take. Will I start spotting again when I run out?

Sheri,
Did you ever get a resolution? I’m 50 and began bleeding terribly with clots on 9/2.by 9/11 I went onurgent care because I was so weak and exhausted. I was put on provera. It stopped the next day, but has come back once for a long time and heavy, but not as bad as before. Now there’s just a little brown spotting every day and I only need a liner. Is that ever going to stop altogether? I have about 35 more days of provera unless the doctor prescribes more. My lining was 20mm and I will have another ultrasound st the end of October. I just want it to all stop and never return. I’m just fine with that.

I have just stopped the provera for 4 days now and so far so good, no spotting. Only time will tell. Never had the heavy bleeding like you. I am hoping the spotting never comes back. You are my only response. Check back with me in a month and I will let u know if I am spot free. Crossing my fingers. Hope it helps u. Took it for 3 months.

Re: Sheri (# 3) Expand Referenced Message

I am 39 years old. I have had heavy bleeding for 2 years now. My Dr. has done all sorts of tests and said that I had a thickening of the uterin walls. You are supposed to take a shot every 3 months, but after the second month I would bleed for the entire 3rd month til the next shot. So my Dr. started giving me the shot every 8 weeks instead of 12 weeks and that seemed to work fine, No bleeding at all, maybe a couple days of spotting normally. But my Insurance said they won't do that anymore after 2 years of this. So now I am back to every 12 weeks with the month of bleeding at the end. I went back a month ago because my Doc. left and a new Dr. is there so I figured i'd get a second opinion. She ordered a Transvaginal with the same results, nothing is wrong. She said I had a small fibroid that my old doctor never mentioned but he did give me a DNC. He said if he scraped it, it might help, which it never did help. Her response was there is nothing out of the ordinary and if you want to switch to and she named off a few regular Birth Control methods I could take. So that tells me this new Dr. is not good because the only reason I take the Depo shot is because the Hormones in it seem to help me and the regular birth control pills do not have the Hormones or whatever in it. So now my Dr. is gone and my new Dr. is an ***** and I am left with no answers. They seem to not want to do a hysterectomy on me, saying I am too young, but living like this is miserable. Is that what I need? Am I starting Menopause? Who knows, but I feel what you're going through because I have been dealing with this for over 2 years and still don't know what the hell is going on. My blood got so low one time I was literally about to get a blood transfusion and they test before they do & luckily it went back up to 9. Been taking B12 shots and Iron supplements since then.

Re: chrystal (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

Hi Chrystal, sorry you go thru this. I am guessing my hormones are back to what they should be. Not taking provera pills anymore. I was supposed to see a endocrinologist to see “why” I was spotting but they did not let me. Are you pre menapausal? Maybe you are not there yet! Maybe still just your period. The period is supposed to shed your lining. Our bodies sure wreek havoc on our bodies. Every seven years we change. Maybe try the pills for three months instead of the shot. Best of luck.
