Oxycodone Adverse Reaction
(Newest replies first)
Updated
My pain from an old broken neck was not helped by Norco 10 so my doc prescribed oxycodone 15 mg 4x daily. It didn't help but I kept it up. After 3 weeks my pain level was much higher than it had ever been and I began having severe deep muscle seizure cramps which got worse and very serious. I told my doc and he said stop those meds immediately. Some people can have a life threatening reaction to oxy. Be careful with it. . Everyone be safe out there.

Oxy can also cause deep severe, long lasting muscle cramps that are more serious than your usual "muscle cramps". It starts slow. Your pain level goes up so you take an extra dose a couple times a day. Then you start getting small cramps deep in the large arm and leg muscles. They get bigger.
Soon they started to curl my hands down toward my elbows if I didn't catch them in time. I got wise to the feeling of the beginning of the cramps and could catch them in time to grab my hand to hold it straight. I would ride it out. At night I would wake up to the cramp already in full swing and it was extremely painful, seeming to last longer when my hand, left or right was at that abnormal angle. It was bizarre.
So after a few days of that, these cramps progressed to my legs. I was still in the dark as to cause. My thigh cramps tried to bring my heel to my hip. This was about the time I finally found information on the Internet about oxycodone causing these. It only took two weeks of taking this for this to happen. I was on 10/325, 4 to 5 times daily. And taking high doses of muscle relaxer. I stopped the oxy immediately and went to my pain doctor. He had never heard of this. I had to show him the info on the Internet. It is in a reputable site. So he believed me. He put me back on hydrocodone.
It took a good month to get over the soreness in my muscles. I suspect my back muscles were beginning to cramp (scary!) because my shoulder blades stayed sore the longest. I didn't think I would ever get better.
This is a life threatening problem. If you have cramps that get worse, stop the oxy immediately.
Hello, Cruncheo! How are you?
It's always possible for some people to have a life threatening reaction to any medication, even seemingly innocuous over the counter products.
The FDA classifies Oxycodone as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
