Nexito Forte-usage (Page 2) (Top voted first)

My sister has been going through problems of depression and insecurity. Initially she has been advised to take Nexito forte for 10 days. She was fine till then. After completing 10 days she was still fine for a week. And now again she had depression problem. Now she has been advised Nexito Forte again. I prefer counseling as it gives long term effect. Also in a couple of years she is planning for baby. Is it advisable to continue with this medicine? Please advise.

Nexito Forte contains the active ingredient Escitalopram, it is an SSRI class antidepressant.

Usually, for people with depression, the best course of action is to use one of these types of medications and couple it with counseling. That way, the medication is used a short-term solution and the counseling helps deal with things on a more long-term basis, just as you stated.

However, some people are born with a chemical imbalance in their brain, that makes them more easily prone to depression and they may always require some type of medication.

These are issues that she will really need to discuss with her doctor.

If she is planning a baby in a few years, there is no need to worry about using this medication now. That is something she should discuss with her doctor, if she is still on it, at the time she wishes to become pregnant.

And, from using it for 10 days and then stopping it, part of her problem could also have been caused by a slight rebound effect. Once your body starts to get used to having these medications, when you stop abruptly, it then has to readjust to not having it. This can result in the return of the depression and it could even be worse than it was, when you started taking it.
