New White Watson 853 10/325 Problem - What Is Going On!? (Page 8) (Top voted first)

Updated

Hello all,

I am a longtime chronic pain sufferer. I have taken opiates for pain for over 10 years. I recently got a prescription filled (from a well known pharmacy chain in the U.S.) and I was given these new Watson 853 white (not yellow) hydro 10/325 pills. I wanted to ask the forum here if any of you have had the same experience with them as I have. I know there are some very smart people with advanced chemistry knowledge here that may have delved deeper into whats going on with these things. They are ineffective for me. I've taken hydrocodone 10/325 for 10+ years and have never ever had a problem with pills being ineffective but that is the case with these pills. I've had about every brand you can think of and never an issue. Ever. I thought nothing of the color change when I got the pills home from the pharmacy... I've had the yellow Watson 853's before and figured they just changed the coloring. I've seen people complain before about differences in brands before, but I've never experienced anything like that.... Mallies, Watson, Qualitst... all the same to me. I didn't start looking around for answers until I noticed these pills were not working well at all. Something is 100% wrong.

Based on some initial research I do see that they have taken the yellow dye out but there are other reports from people with the same issues as I see. Obviously you just don't know how reputable some of these reports are... I've seen posts talk about pharmacists telling the patient that the pills now are structured to release hydrocodone slower (even though its an IR pill... what?)... that Actavis/Watson employees have claimed there could be "kinetic imbalances" in their formulation when upset customers have called them... etc.

The only truth I know is that there is something amiss with these things. Any response would be appreciated from you guys.... experiences/info/links to other similar reports, etc. This is the most frustrating thing I have ever run into and it just doesn't make much sense to me at the moment with whats going on....and the implications this could have if these pills have been truly altered by the manufacturer in some way.

I know it doesn't mean much to just say it on an internet forum, but I'm not the type to cry wolf over something like this. I realize it could be a bad batch I've received, but it looks initially like the problem is more widespread.

TIA for any responses to this thread! I came here because I believe this site has people that have the intelligence/knowledge to get to the bottom of it. Again, any info at all in relation to this would be appreciated greatly.

Dustyrose, chances are one of the reasons that the Norco doesn't work as well for your husband now is because they have reduced his Methadone. If your husband is terminal, I don't understand why the dr would be concerned about government guidelines, because they don't apply to terminal patients. Has your husband asked his dr about another long acting pain med ? There are some very good long acting pain meds.

Some dr should be monitoring your friend brain, even if they don't want to do surgery. If no dr is monitoring her, that is why she isn't treated well in the ER, they don't believe her. ER's aren't a substitute for seeing your dr regularly if you have a condition that causes severe pain.

That's bc the pharmaceutical company's are messing with the pills. idk where u go for ur meds but I always go to rite aid!!! I get every month 10mg Percocet without any Tylenol and they help so much!!! But my pain this month was horrible. I couldn't move so i took more than prescribed so I still had old Watson 853 10/325 Vicodin. They are s***. Ever since those turned white something is up. If u can go to rite aid go there bc their watsons are still yellow! :)

Ap27, Percocet doesn't come without tylenol. There is Oxycontin, that contains oxycodone without tylenol. Oxycontin is extended release, percocet is not.

Gunther, if the pharmacy takes the meds back, you cannot go to another pharmacy and get a prescription for what is left. It is also highly doubtful that your dr will write you another rx, even if you take the pills you have left and give them to him.

Hey Gunther, just like BL said basically you're stuck with those pills the moment you walked out of the pharmacy with them... I wouldn't get a controlled substance from Walgreens, CVS or any national chain store. They don't care if what their selling works or not and if you say anything then you must be a drug seeker! My advise is to find an independent pharmacy that will work with you and your specific needs. The independent pharmacies will usually go the extra mile to get your business while the chain pharmacies could care less getting your controlled substances business at all... The best independent pharmacies for chronic pain patients are the ones who cater toward cancer and terminally ill patients, this has been my personal experience for the last 27 years.

Here is what we need to do- create a petition on Change.org. BL... Why don't u draft it up??? Starting and promoting your campaign is simple: Write your petition, address it to the relevant decision maker, and start sharing your campaign with family and friends. Send your petition to your local media to get public support. Deliver your signatures to the decision maker and urge them to take a stand on your campaign. Jesse, no one from the general public is going to be able to find out the info you're looking for by calling the manufacturers. It is legal for the manufacturers of generics to put a lesser amount of the active ingredients in a generic than is in a brand. For example if you get a brand medicationa dn it says that it has 10 mg, it has 10 mg. If you get a generic and it says it has 10 mg, it can have anywhere from 8 mg-12 mg in the dose that says 10 mg.

I would recommend going to the pharmacys in the richest part of town where you live and going in and talking to the Pharmacist. Be sure it is the Pharmacist and tell them that you need to get the brand and you will be getting another prescription on such and such date and you were wondering if they carry the brand. I will tell you now that your insurance company won't pay for the brand and the brand is very expensive. The only chance you have of your insurance possibley paying for a brand is if you have tried most of the other generics and have had life threatening allergic reactions or receivied little to no benefits from them. Your dr will also have to put this down on a form and the insurance company may ask for copies of your medical records as proof. Your dr will also have to write on the prescription "Brand Name Medically Indicated" "Generic Selection Not Permitted"

White Watson's do nothing except make me sleepy And nauseated. No pain relief.

Omg it's freaking scary for those of us who have real pain. Can't trust pharmaceutical companies anyway. I'm on the Butrans Patch on/off for many years. I'm telling you not all this patches work. Or even last 5 days. I'm sorry I'm not addressing the hydro's which is fishy for sure. I would call the manufacturer, or change pharmacies. I dunno, I'm like what are we all going for???

I'm not dismissing the effects of fillers and binders on the medication. I'm alleging there are other, newer and different types of "fillers" in these drugs that were not in the drugs before.

Yes I have the same problem. I've been taking hydro 10 325 for long time the yellow ones. Then one day I came home from the pharmacy and they were white. I asked the pharmacist why are they white and he says manufacturer has changed all their yellow pills two white ones. Then. They don't work quite the same way as the yellow ones do. And besides that if I take more my normal dosage is for the day I notice I get a lot of headaches. I hope this answers your question because you are not alone.

Hi.. Born with a rare bone disease, ostegenesis imperfecta...brittle bone disease, I have spent several yrs. in my childhood on demoral, etc...which I never liked, yet had bad symptoms when time to get off it...But when I found Vicodin after knee surgery at age 33 Before the pain was gone, the addiction ballooned...sometimes taking 14-20 daily..Now, I am on Methadone, which u really have to think carefully about getting on that...Anyway, regarding the change in pills, it can depend on if they come from the pharm or the street..I started seeing some 10 mg. lorcet in white that did nothing..Checking websites, I found that more of the pills on the street are pressed counterfeit pills. The harder they are at the pharm, the more likely you are to get fake pills, which are ineffective. This is also common in the Xanax on the street...white bars bought on street can b melatonin, but I am noticing ineffectiveness in the yellow Xanax as well..are they also changing the pharmcuetical Xanax bars?

Dawn, you will have to get another prescription if you want another generic and it is doubtful that your dr will give you another prescription this soon. The pharmacy can't replace meds once you've left the pharmacy counter.

Here's what's going to happen, people are taking more to relieve their pain and the Tylenol is going to destroy their liver. Way to go medical field.looks like you have it figured out. And I agree they work for crap.I'm in alot of pain right now.

You can't be so trusting. You are in the minority. Especially if you are in chronic pain and can tell the difference in the medicines that work versus the ones that don't.

Brokennbruised: sorry, that message^^ was for you about the manufacturer.
Lo: that is good advice and I am going to a smaller pharmacy today instead of Walgreen's. I will report back here the outcome.

As my husband would say...It's great we all have these chat rooms to go to and chat but we also all need to be sending emails, letters, calls what ever you can do to CDC, DEA, Washington etc.. (Sure I'm missing places and people). The only people they are listening to are people who are complaining about drug abuse. They need to hear from an over flow of Chronic pain patients over and over again. I don't know if it will help but we shouldn't sit here and not do anything to try. Well at least that's how I feel. With each passing day more laws are being passed or guidelines being made and we can't continue this especially us who are suffering. So I ask each of you to take a moment and read up about who you can email. I know cdc has an email page. DEA I'm not sure about but checking. I know there is a way to email the president and other leaders. Do what you can do, it won't take but a few minutes. I might say even once a week and that still wouldn't take much time. Hope you all have a less painful night.
