Need Some Information On Chantix
UpdatedThis is my second week taking Chantix, and I'm still smoking! How long is it until I don't have the cravings for a cigarette anymore? And how long does it take for the Chantix to kick in?

Hi Mj,
The guidelines for taking Chantix list the following information (that may help address your question):
1. Choose a Quit Date when you will stop smoking.
2. Start taking CHANTIX one week (7 days) before your Quit Date. This lets CHANTIX build up in your body. You can keep smoking during this time. Make sure that you try and stop smoking on your Quit Date. If you slip up, try again. Some people need a few weeks for CHANTIX to work best.
3. Take CHANTIX after eating and with a full glass (8 ounces) of water.
4. It is recommended to take CHANTIX for a full 12 weeks. If you haven't completely quit smoking by 12 weeks, ask your doctor if another 12 weeks of CHANTIX may help you stay cigarette-free.
Just remember, nothing will work without your commitment...
All Chantix does is plug up the pleasure receptors in your brain so that you don't desire it as much. It's a great help, but in the end, you have to decide to put them down and not cave into your craving.
If it's any consolation, I know two people who have been smoking for over 35 years and they both went cold turkey; experienced symptoms for about a week or two and then felt fine. If you really have a burning desire to quit, it all comes down to shear will power or the fear of serious ailments which forces one into this mindset. The real question is, how bad do you want it?
David is right, there is no magic pill. I quit using Chantix a year ago. My Dr. told me to forget the one week quit date, I quit in 3 weeks cutting down every day. You need to break your old habits by replacing them with something else. My worst cravings were right after waking up and after meals. I started taking walks at those times and completed a half marathon last August. I still want a smoke at times, not sure that after more then 40yrs of smoking that will ever leave, but I want to NOT smoke more. You can do it.
I'm on my 1st week and my cravings seem less frequent. I'm down to only a few cigaretts a day and think it's going well. I really want to quit and I've used patches and gum but that only made me want to smoke more. I feel great and if I keep myself busy I should be able to kick this stupid habit. Just keep working towards quitting. Even if it takes a while, just don't stop trying. I've even told my son to pat me on the back and tell me that I'm doing great and it will all be ok if he sees me freaking out. He has asked me to quit because he knows it's bad for me. Now that I've told him that I am trying to quit, I can't go back. I have to come through for him. We can do this.
IM STILL SMOKING IM ON DAY NINE I BREEZED RIGHT THREW THE QUIT DAY
