My Doc Will Not Refill My Xanax Im Feeling Sick (Page 24) (Top voted first)

I was prescribed Prozac & Xanax 10 years ago by my psychiatrist for depression & severe panic attacks. He started me on 1mg 3 times a day. Around Dec 2005 he increased my daily dose to 1 mg - 4 times a day. I have been a patient of his now for 10 years where I see him every 3 months. Through the years, there has been a few times were I had to call to reschedule my appointment and a couple of times he had to do the same. He would call in my meds for the amount I would need to get me through to my next appointment. This month I had an appointment for May 27th I called to reschedule due to transportation. I do not drive now and my ride canceled on me. so, I rescheduled my app. for June 17th I then requested my meds be called in until my appointment, a 3 week supply. She said she would call me back when it was called in later that day. Not hearing anything I called back the next day to find out what was going on. I was told my doctor feels uncomfortable due to liability reasons to re-fill my medication, until I see him again in June. I asked her what about the liability to take me off medication I have been taking for 10 years? She told me to go to my primary physician to get my meds. I told her my primary care doctor will not prescribe me those medications without my medical records from this office and I just signed a medical release form a few days ago at my first appointment with this new primary doctor, so she told me to go to an urgent care if my symptoms became to uncomfortable for me to deal with!! I had enough xanax to last me until today. I took my last xanax this morning and I am already starting to feel sick, my head feels cloudy, I feel like I'm getting the flu. My heart is racing, I'm feel really anxious & closed in. Has anyone out there gone off xanax cold turkey what more should I expect? I don't understand how a doctor can prescribe medication like this for 10 years and just make you stop so suddenly it doesn't seem fair. I have lost trust in my doctor now and I don't think I can continue to be his patient anymore. I am scared and I don't know who to turn too.

I basically went through the same thing that you're describing and what happened to me was horrible it messed up my sense of taste my sense of smell I was I was up for 14 days and nights hallucinating I was I was dying I know I was I couldn't eat sleep I ended up having a stroke from this and then another time the same thing happened again and I had a seizure while driving so it is extremely dangerous and I feel very bad for you

You need to get a lawyer and sue that doctor for endangering your life. It's like manslaughter. This is the only way to stop these doctors.

They listen to these government agencies who have noting better to do all day but sit and think of ways to torture people. These soccer
moms encourage this type of thing because they think they are doing something good but in the long run they are not educated on mental illness so they still think they have the right to open their mouths. Why don't this country ask the people who have a mental illness instead of assuming no one needs their Xanax it is not fair because they don't suffer from panic attacks or anxiety.

You are being ridiculous. The doctors are being monitored by the DEA and unable to call it in without you there. I'd love to talk to the doctor and see what they say. You don't feel like the flu when you stop. Your obviously hooked and don't want to stop. You need to get strong and give them up before the meds kill you

You obviously have NOT withdrawn from it. I had a terrible benzo withdrawal 7 years ago and have never truly recovered. Doctors are ignorant and irresponsible for prescribing them long term then expecting you to cold turkey! There are support forums on the internet. I was on one with 10,000 members yet doctors still don't believe a protracted withdrawal is possible! Please seek out support online, they are the ONLY people who will understand and support you! Good luck! You may get through it within a few weeks... I hope.

Was on 2mg 4 times a day 8mg
Dropped 2mgs just like that then drop 2mg due to me stating needed to find a new primary so to insurance I have been with Dr over 12yrs I have tried all medications and even ECT I finally found a medication combination that's works for me I do not abuse take as prescribed only 2mg 3 times a day plus another med at night so very frightened finally found right med combo after yrs of trying different meds

30mg of Valium for 26 years and cut off 3-2017 because of new laws forbidding opiates with benzo's... You want to talk withdrawals??

2MGS would put me out for 2 days, never mind the amount you take the rest of the day. You really have a high tolerance at this point, I am reading that many take 2MGS TID, and I just cannot believe it.

The "shrink" that prescribed XANAX to me, ended up getting 5 CONSENT ORDERS from CT., Public Health. He paid fines, and then was on probation, and another doctor had to watch over him & his patients for 2 years.

XANAX is supposed to be prescribed PRN-ONLY for panic attacks. That is what he got in trouble for, + he allowed his license to expire 5 times in 5 years.

He also decided that 5 of us were BIPOLAR so, he added LITHIUM to the laundry list of medications he was dolling out. He NEVER ordered blood work before, during or after we all began this nightmare. Plus, he was NOT in contact with any of our primary care doctors. Mine said he never got anything, and he praised me for throwing the LITHIUM in the trash, calling him a quack, and walking out. "You were dying", said my primary care doctor. I had diarrhea and I was hallucinating (signs of dying on LITHIUM). "You are NOT bipolar either," said my primary care doc.

THESE DOCTORS are all to blame as they are all prescribing this as an everyday med. Cutting anyone off of this, is like shooting someone in the street. You are being set up to fail and then have seizures, that will lead to your death. It is harder to get off of than opiates, and they expect you to just stop, "cold turkey". That is reckless, and a MALPRACTICE people. STICK UP FOR YOU because nobody else is going to do it for you. I cannot get off the KLONOPIN I was switched to. That is as far as I got. They just bumped me down 2 levels because its still a BENZO. They write "detrimental" on my Oxycontin 20MG prescription, because I am also taking a benzo, that I cannot get off.

I'm sorry for your issues. You need professional care to de-fox from Xannax. Cold turkey or abrupt stoppage of it can cause seizures. Get help and don't wake up in the Hospital. If You do wake up. All the Best

I TAKE ALPRAZOLAM .25, AND HAVE SO FOR OVER 14 YEARS. I HAVE HAD NO URGE TO TAKE MORE THEN I SUPPOSE TO. I AM A DISABLED VIETNAM VETERAN, AND HAVE MANY ISSUES DUE TO PTSD, AND BEING EXPOSED TO AGENT ORANGE, ETC! THE VA HAS BEEN VERY GOOD TO ME, ABOUT MY ANXIETY, AND DEPRESSION, AND LET ME TELL YOU, WHOEVER CAME UP WITH ALPRAZOLAM NEEDS TO HAVE THEIR FEET KISSED! IT LITERALLY SAVED MY LIFE ALL THESE YEARS! I AM 69 YEARS OLD, AND I FOR ONE SAY, THAT I DON'T HAVE THAT MANY YEARS LEFT IN THIS LIFE, BUT IT SURE IS NICE TO BE ABLE TO ENJOY WHAT TIME I HAVE LEFT! ESPECIALLY NOT TO HAVE TO WORRY IF I GET MY MEDICINE IF I REQUIRE IT!

First of all thank you so much for your service Skye!!! It is so much appreciated. I am glad to see that you are being taken care of and that you at least get your meds that you need for the PTSD and anxiety and depression. I am a long-term survivor of very severe domestic abuse and PTSD in any form is no joke. I am also disabled due to a car accident when I was 17. After three surgeries on my back all these years later with so many titanium screws and plates in my back and the medication I was on has been cut down by 90%. It's really a joke but I'm now on 15 mg of morphine 3 times a day as opposed to when I used to take 60 milligrams of morphine three times a day and now only 10 mg of oxycodone 3 times a day, which used to be 15 mg 4 times a day plus all the other medication which is non-narcotic. I also used to take Diclofenac, Topamax and Duloxetine. I was also prescribed valium for my spasms which also helped with my debilitating PTSD, anxiety and severe depression, but now in Pennsylvania, you are no longer allowed to take valium with morphine. So my anxiety, PTSD and depression is way out of whack. And no doctor will prescribe me any type of medication to help with my anxiety or depression because of all the pain medication I take. It just so happened that my doctor prescribed me the valium for my horrific spasms and it kept all my anxiety and depression under control. It is such a shame that people like us are being denied basically life-saving medication due to people who are abusing it and overdosing on these same meds and are making it bad for the ones who truly need it and do not abuse their medications as I, like you, do not overtake my medication or abuse it. I take it specifically as directed and have NEVER gotten euphoria from my medication because my pain level is so high it doesn't affect me in a euphoric way and I NEVER ever sold my medication because I need it and I don't break the law. I'm glad to hear that you are still receiving your medication and you are doing well and that it does help. Good luck to you always Skye!!!

OKAY, I'VE BEEN HERE FOR 9 MONTHS GETTING EMAILS AND READING EM, so who's got an answer? S***, doctors got me on xanax or something similar since 1986 & now i'm the f***ing bad guy. Also, it's been 3 months and i'm still sick as a dog. I didn't ask to be hooked on em but sure as hell did. I'm sure you will have some answer that does nothing, maybe have a program we can look at, but i'm a minority, a man that works every day and always have. And raising my kids alone. Do I sound angry? You're damn right!!!

There's another part of the story. Doctors charge a lot for visits. Most between 250-300 dollars a visit. Medicaid and medicare usually don't pay for this. A lot of people are on disability and that could be up to a third of what they receive from SSI every month. What's the logical answer to that problem? Of course if they want to eat that month they have to sell some of their pills. Those people I have sympathy for even though it's wrong, but people who sell just to make a profit suck.

Please just keep looking for a doctor that will prescribe them to you. There are a few good doctors left out there not many just a few. You will find a doctor you'll see. Don't stop looking. In the meantime go to like an urgent care. I call them a Doc in the box. And tell them you are feeling sick and you are afraid of having a seizure so on so forth and they will give you some. Been down that road before. They will. Keep fighting because if you don't obviously you're not going to help yourself plus you're not going to help others that are fighting the same fight that you are.. Hello. A lot of doctors are Running Scared nowadays because all of the new (LAWS). I take my pain medication and my nerve medication just how my doctor tells me to take it. Everyone should try to take their medication the right way and you should be a okay. Taking an extra one here and there is not going to help anyone. Try it it's not that bad. Just do it the right way please. Because it's people that are taking an extra one here an there they're hurting the people like me and others that are doing it by the book. Please just do it the right way. Like I said doctors are Running Scared. Get help get your medication and take it like it says to take it. Good health to all. Good luck.

I hate it when people actually get on here and they need help and they're crying out for help and then you have *****s that think they know everything. I agree with you that withdrawing from any medication is a nightmare. Seek help immediately.
