Muscle Relaxers Comparable To Soma? (Top voted first)
UpdatedMy insurance company stopped filling my prescription of Soma because it is not in their health care plan formula. What are the top five that work as well as Soma (Carisoprodol)?

Then Stan you reach in your pocket and pull out the $4 it costs for Soma. I pay $2. The insurance company doesn't dictate what medicines you can take, only which ones they might not pay for?
Unfortunately, there is really no top options list that anyone can give you, there are no others that are as strong as Soma, at this time, and which other one might help can vary from person to person.
If you can't afford to pay for it out of pocket, as Eddy suggested, you might want to consult your doctor about which one they think would be best for you to try.
Personally, I had great results with Skelaxin, which contains the active ingredient Metaxalone, but just as with any other medication, it doesn't work well for everyone that tries it.
Has your doctor suggested any other options for you?

If your Insurance is requiring pre authorization for Soma generic why not pay for it in cash? You'll find it on the $4.00 list
Right now I’m taking Baclofen. I’m not sure where that falls on any list as I’m new to the world of muscle relaxers for my dystonia. I’m sorry that you can’t keep taking what you know works for you. That’s disappointing. I hope some others respond and help you out.
Re: EDDY (# 1)
Hi thanks for the info. I will ask my doctor.
Stan, you might try printing a rx discount coupon to bring into the pharmacy the next time you want to fill your Soma script. Ask your doc and pharmacist about the generic version of the med too (Carisoprodol) since it's likely cheaper.
STAN - Baclofen is higher only because it is for people with MS & Fibromyalgia. I don’t have experience with that one but I take Soma & have the same issue. My insurance requires a yearly PA -Prior Auth. For me to get it. Even if it doesn’t say so in the book.. You may want to go that route even if it doesn’t say so in the book.. You may want to go that route first 1st before changing. Soma generic has changed on who makes it & in my opinion it is a lot different then it used to be. But I still prefer it over trying a new one at this point and the only one above it is the baclofen that I know of. I heard there is a new one out but I am Leary when they start new ones. I also am not sure what state u live in but Medical Marijuana is legal in a lot of states and also helps as a muscle relaxant much better than any other medicine & is all natural. I also use CBD OIL only & it helps on super bad days
I take Robaxin and that is the strongest muscle relaxer without being a controlled substance. It works pretty well but not all the time
Re: TiredofpaininPA (# 6)
Where does Baclofin rank in the list of muscle relaxers? I have dystonia and that is why I’m on it. People with muscle tension issues take Baclofen or get a pump to help with their spactisity, like Cerebral Palsy, traumatic brain injury etc.
Have you tried zanaflex? They are comparable to Soma but they made me weak in my legs. So u would ned to be careful when u start them. They come in 2 and 4 mg. I still would rather take soma cuz the side effects are less than anything else ive tried. But if u just cant get soma, the zanaflex is the next best thing. They are similar to taking a soma with a xanax. Even though they dont have that in it.
I take Methocarbamol (Robaxin) 500 mg twice a day. I believe that this is the strongest non narcotic muscle relaxer and it works great.
Get the GoodRx app for your phone, then look up Soma. It will give you price options for pharmacies in your area. There can be a huge spread. Click on the coupon and the pharmacist can scan it for your price. I’ve had good luck with this.

I used to take baclofen but had to stop taking it when autoimmune disorder flared and affected kidneys. Baclofen is very hard in kidneys. My dr changed me to flexeril
