How are you? All Metformin actually has a foul smell to it, it's just that many manufacturers coat the tablets, so it doesn't bother anyone. And your blood sugar should fluctuate to a point, just like blood pressure, it shouldn't always be just one steady number. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Metformin definitely caused me to fart more than I ever have also the most lingerin...

Can I substitute metformin for glipizide ## Hello, Randy! How are you? They both treat diabetes, but they are not the same type of medication, so aren't necessarily interchangeable. Have they both been prescribed for you? Or are you just out of your Glipizide? What are the dosages of both medications?

I am taking metformin 1000mg twice a day. what should be the time interval between two takes? ## Hello, Peter! How are you? Usually, it's taken just before a meal to help control blood sugar levels and, in most cases, that would be breakfast and dinner. However, what has your doctor advised? Did they give you any specific instructions? ## Hi, then what about lunch? I was told by my doctor to take it in the morning with breakfast and in the evening with dinner. However, I eat a heavier lunch than breakfast and wonder if I should take the first one at lunch rather than breakfast. I take Metformin 1000mg HCL. Is this extended release or just regular? Thank you for your time and advice.

I have The metformin #134 pill by Solco doesn't smell and is oval and appears not to work like the Teva #48-93. I am concerned that the Solco pill isn't metformin ## Hello, Steve! How are you? It is the correct medication, but they coated their tablet to prevent the funny smell, because it bothers a lot of people. There have been others who've always gotten ones that didn't smell and had the same worry, when they received one that suddenly did. When you said it doesn't appear to work, what type of problem are you having with it? Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, hypoglycemia and flatulence. Is there anything else I can help with?

A doctor said that Metformin at times creates deficiency of Vitamin B12 resulting in loss of haemoglobin. My mother is diabetic and B12, folic acid deficient. The medication for B12 and Folic acid did not show satisfactory result after one month because Glycomet was being taken along with them. How far is it correct? Thanks in advance.

I am 59 years old and have had type 2 diabetes for ~5 years. I've just relocated from Texas to California and am between doctors. I'm 5'5", weigh 260 lbs, and recently started to have extremely low (30) blood sugars at night. I've been taking 2 x 500 mg Metformin and 1 x 2 mg Glimepiride after breakfast and after dinner. What can/should I decrease? ## Hello, Joe! How are you? What type of foods do you eat? Have you tried having a small snack, before bed? Have you gotten into a new doctor, yet? That would be the best thing to do, rather than trying to adjust your medications on your own. You are diabetic, so you need to have things checked out by a doctor regularly. Do you get a lot of exercise?

I too have taken 850 mg Zyd tabs dispensed from Walmart. My A1c went from 6.0 to 7.1 with no change in diet and exercise. They also have an odd taste. I just switched to 850 mg made by Sun dispensed from Medco/Express scripts and after 3 days my Glucose is now back to the 120's. For me I found Zyd ineffective. There are differences in the generics. If one brand doesn't work for you try another before you give up on Metformin altogether. ## You are correct, there can be differences and that does make them less effective for some people. You may want to double check in the future, when you get a refill, to make sure that you don't get the one from Zydus, again. Is there anything I can help with?

I took the generic version, did not agree with me (muscle pain). I switched to fortament recently but the 2 pills look exactly the same. What is the visual difference between these 2 meds? I know metformin is generic & fortamet is a brand name. I would like to know the difference in what they look like, please. ## Hello, Elle! How are you? What are the markings on them? I bet that if you look, they are different between the generic and name brand. Visually, what they look like means nothing, what tells them apart are the markings on them and the formulation of them. Can you please post back with ore details? Thanks!

Sir I am diabetic patient level II and the decease was discovered in my body in 1991. Lately I was advised by my Doctor Galvus Met 50/1000 1 + 1, with diamicron MR 60 one and half tablet before breakfast as well as one 10point insuline dose at 10 am daily. With above medication although i had good control and my hbA1c checked last week was 7.1, but I was experiencing low sugar level often in late afternoon ( twice or thrice weakly) whenever I had much fatique of running arround. Now I have replaced my morning dose with Metformin 850 instead of Galvus met 50/1000. since then I not have low sugar problem any more, but my randum sugar comes 200 plus some times. Pl advise if this combination of medication is ok or shuld i go back to Galvusmet 50/1000 1 +1. Thanks a lot for your consideration.

Does anyone know why this drug is unavailable now? I have checked with ten pharmacies so far. ## Hello, DebCar! How are you? It's hard to say, the company may just be having a shortage, they may have discontinued it, or the pharmacies may have just switch to a cheaper supplier. Did you try asking them if they can order it in for you?

Has anyone noticed a reduction in allergies when taking Metformin? Since starting the tablet 18 months ago (I was on 1000mg slow release) I have not needed to take anti-histamines. I even had a severe allergy to cats that also disappeared. Lately I have had diarrheoa which has been attributed to the Metformin and so I stopped taking it. Allergies have returned. Has anyone noticed this connection? ## Hello, Ruth! How are you doing? If you have diabetes, you can't just stop taking this medication, that will allow your blood sugar to get out of control, again. It is normal for problems to be more prevalent, when one has a health condition that is out of control. Your body only has a limited number of resources to use to fight any one thing, so it prioritizes, elevated blood sugar is mo...
