Lyrica Lawsuit (Page 24)

Does anyone know if there is an ongoing lawsuit against the company who puts out Lyrica? I am a mess from it. Do we have a leg to stand on when it comes to the side effects they found out from people like us? I am a long termer. I have been taking 900 mg since 2005. Is there anyone representing us? Thank you
That what it was marketed in Canada. I am looking at my old prescription right now!!!
I was prescribed Lyrica for M.S. nerve pain. All of the commercials I see (Texas) says it's to treat diabetic nerve pain. Never seen any advertisements for treatment of epilepsy.
Gabapentin is the generlc name for Pfizer's brand name of NEURONTIN. CO Gabapentin is just what one generic drug company calls its version; kind of like how one company calls its version of Wellbutrin Budeprion.
Lyrica's generic name is PREGABALIN. Generic pregabalin is not available. Pfizer still has the patent and the drug is available under the brand-name Lyrica.
As far as I can see, Gabapentin is a form of Lyrica? Not "Co..."
Where in the world did you get the idea that CO gabapentin is LYRICA? Lyrica is known generically as pregabalin. Neurontin is known generically as gabapentin. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this one out. Who is posting BS? The person that has equated CO gabapentin with Lyrica. Got to watch these boards 24/7 or some moron will come on and post erroneous info.
Cogabapentin is a GENERIC form of Neurontin, and is not Lyrica at all. I suggest YOU get your facts straight.
I hate to tell you but the FDA in the States one the biggest class action suit in the history of Pfizer for improper marketing of Lyrica. As stated it was approved by the FDA for treatment of epileptic seizures. They did not do the proper clinical trials etc when they started marketing for pain management especially those with fibro myalgia. Check out August 2013 Business Week as the article and the scandal of Lyrica and then under the generic term of Cogabapentin.
Get your facts straight before you post B... Sh..!!!!!!!!
My dad had broke hos back and was in severe pain all the time 5 mos ago or so he was put on lyrica. He commited suicide on nov 10. If your on this drug get off it now!
Since we are all hoping we will eventually be able to pursue legal action against Pfizer, I suggest everyone get a copy of your medical records showing you were prescribed lyrica, the actual prescription receipt, the list of side effects from the pharmacy as of the date you received it and the actual pill bottle with any lyrica you may have left. Just C.Y.A.- you never know what you might need to prove you were on it.
I agree Cindy , lyrica is with no doubt a dumbing down drug and many patients take a long time to even realize what is in fact the cause of there problem .
I was given Lyrica after surgery in 2011. Immediately I started having blurry vision and terrible depression. I attributed the weight gain to the depression, and the depression to my loss of site. My husband was reading over side effects of the drug I was prescribed and quickly brought it to my attention. I of course brought it to my Surgeon's attention and quit taking the drug. At the time, it was put to me that my vision would most likely return to normal with time. Well it's 2014 and I have never regained my normal site. It also seems that my facial muscles (especially on the left) have been impaired. I am at a loss. If a drug can reek this much havoc in less than a week, and no one is accountable. How do we choose medical care or even a physician?
I would like to also Thank you Pfizerdude. Is so hard to get information let alone someone putting it in "layman" terms. Since you've been so helpful, do you have any experience dealing with the side effects that Lyrica that we're having? I'm sure you've read these post so I won't restate them. We are all at a loss; we are experiencing horrible side affects and there doesn't seem to be anything we can do about it. I'm sure Pfizer won't own up to any responsibility without a lawsuit being filed and legal representation. And those of us experiencing these side affects do not have the money to take on Phizer. Unless we can find legal representation that is capable of such a law suit with contingency, I don't see any resolution. And as I've stated before, it's my opinion that Phizer is counting on us not having the mental facilities needed to even to explain what Lyrica has done to us.
Thank you very much Fyserdude for correcting me , what puzzles me is why does lyrica seem to cause permanent side effects if it only supposedly effects GABA levels in the brain , the literature on Lyrica says that it is unclear how Lyrica actually works on the brain , i would therefore surmise that what is unclear is what is causing the devastating effects on people .
I cannot find them either
FACT: Lyrica was developed in Pfizer labs by slightly manipulating the Neurontin (gabapentin) molecule. It was developed as a more potent successor to Neurontin and the PRIMARY reason that Pfizer developed Lyrica had zilch to do with treating medical conditions. Pfizer was aware that it's patent exclusivity on Neurontin was rapidly expiring. Lyrica was developed as a pure business decision in the hopes that some of the patients using brand name Neurontin would be switched to Lyrica instead of a generic version gabapentin.
Lyrica was submitted to the FDA and its NDA (New Drug Application) requested that Lyrica be approved for three medical indications: As ADJUNCTIVE treatment for some seizure disorders (neither Lyrica nor Neurontin are used as the sole anticonvulsant medication) to be used with other anticonvulsants; as a treatment for neuropathy and related pain syndromes such as post-herpetic neuralgia (post-Shingles pain) and as a treatment for Generalized Anxiety Disorder. The FDA didn't feel that Pfizer presented sufficient evidence supporting the use of Lyrica for treatment of GAD, even though Lyrica is approved for this purpose in many other countries. And, your statement that Lyrica (and Neurontin) have nothing to do with GABA is inaccurate. Both pregablin and gabapentin are synthetic chemical analogues of GABA - these drugs don't bind to GABA receptors in the way that benzodiazepines, barbiturates, alchohol, and other "downers" do, but the chemical similarities between Neurontin, Lyrica, and GABA can't be overlooked. GABA supplements purchased in a health food store are not effective; these supplements don't cross the blood-brain barrier. I would suggest you consider doing a little more research before posting what you allege to be the mechanism of Lyrica. It's mechanism is not clearly understood. And interaction with sodium voltage channels is common with almost every anticonvulsant - in fact, enhancement of GABA is modulated through these channels. The binding and non-binding of Lyrica and Neurontin aren't especially important. Using either of these drugs results in an increase of the activity of GABA-like chemicals in the brain, simply by the fact that these drugs both cross over the blood-brain barrier. Although the exact nature of their use isn't understood, I don't think that there's a lack of connection between adding GABA analogues to brain chemistry. One final note: Neither Lyrica (pregabalin) nor Neurontin (gabapentin) are particularly effective anticonvulsants - they need to be used with other anticonvulsant drugs. Also, Pfizer has paid out millions of dollars for promoting "off-label" use of Neurontin for things like treatment of bipolar disorder. Finally, Lyrica IS a controlled substance - and there's not a huge difference between Lyrica and Neurontin.
Pfizerdude , Fact Lyrica was originally designed for epilepsy treatment and has absolutely nothing to do with GABA , Lyrica works by interfering with the voltage dependent calcium channels in the brain that are essential for higher thinking and i strongly suspect that Lyrica permanently damages them .
I'm not positive about any confirmed class-action suits against Pfizer for Lyrica. As you probably all know, Lyrica is a "chemical cousin" to Neurontin (gabapentin). Lyrica's generic name is pregablin. Both of these chemicals are similar to GABA, a naturally occurring neurotransmitter that functions primarily to promote relaxation of the central nervous system. The class of drugs known as benzodiazepines (Valium, Xanax, Klonopin, etc.) work by attaching to specific receptor sites in the brain and "enhancing" the effects of GABA. Research shows that neither Lyrica nor Neurontin bind to the GABA sites. Still, how they work is anybody's guess. But, it seems logical to me that if you start adding GABA-like chemicals that are capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier, the brain is going to respond as if there were more GABA. GABA is a wonderful neurotransmitter; but no one knows what excessive amounts of GABA or GABA-like chemicals can do. Additional sedation, clumsiness, and possible depressive symptoms are caused by many sedative drugs. Why wouldn't pouring in chemicals like GABA work the same way?

Hi Mary , did you know that the a**hole that invented lyrica collects more than 2 million per month in Royalty's , so you are correct about a lot of money changing hands .The inventor grows rich and lives a life of plenty while his invention destroys human life and wreaks misery .
