Lorazepam Use
UpdatedHi, I've been taking lorazepam 0.5 mg once a day for 16yrs. Now my doctor wants me to wean off it, but I'm having a hard time.

What tapering/weaning method have you been using? Generally, the modern preferred method is to gradually reduce the dose, while spacing doses further and further apart. Stopping too abruptly may create the risk of seizures, according to FDA reports.
Are you on any other medications?
David,
I'm sorry to hear about your struggle. Unfortunately it has become a very common complaint with the tightening
Restrictions imposed on this class of drug. Although your dose is minimal the length of time will require a very deliberate titration and taper schedule. I would suggest you research the Weismann method for benzodiazepine detoxification. I know from first hand experience lorazepam is exceedingly difficult to withdraw from. In my case a 9 month taper was excruciating but symptoms persisted for almost 18 months. I was a long time legit patient on 2 mg a day for 11 years so my abstinence syndrome was protracted. Please discuss your concerns with your prescriber or find another willing to assist you in the safe removal from this dangerous substance. God speed.
The ween method I usually take just one .05 mil a day
I have taken lorazapam for 6 years for severe anxiety and panic attacks. I went to see my Doc for my regular 3 month visit to get my refills and she said I have to stop taking it. She gave me 1 month refill and said I should have no problems with withdrawal. I figure I will just try not to take any for as long as possible. I wish I had a better answer for you. I sometimes feel like my doc thinks I'm lying about my anxiety.
You can bash me if you want, but if you’re still in need of help, I’m giving you a solution. Google “Reiki *your town here*” and go to 1-2 energy healing sessions. I was on 1-2 mg once a day for 7-8 years and had accepted I would always take it. It was still effective at 1mg, I never needed to increase, so I wasn’t super upset or inconvenienced. It did leave me without energy in the mornings (next mornings), though.
Anyway, there has to be a metaphysical component. I assure you that this will work. For 75 bucks or so, you’ll leave with no need to take it, and with no typical withdrawal symptoms. Go to the appointment on a Friday, go home and sleep all weekend while fasting to a comfortable extent. Done. I’m at a point now where I take it 5-6 times a year, only when my anxiety is debilitating (convulsing on floor, etc). It works, I have no need for it any other time, and I experience only the slightest withdrawal the next day, never to a problematic extent. I know this advice is wild, but I guarantee you it works.
