Issue Having My Script Filled

Hi I have tried my normal pharmacy to fill my monthly script of Percocet 10-325 they said it's been on back order for three weeks I went to my dr today it was switched to 5-325 just to get it filled and I still had a issue what's going on why the shortage

I am very sorry about the problem you're having finding your medication.

Unfortunately, the DEA limits the amount of controlled substances that any given manufacturer can produce each year, and subsequently, how much each pharmacy can stock. They base the numbers on demand from the prior year, they did this to try to gain better control of the supply of medications that are commonly abused, or stolen and resold.

Percocet is an opioid analgesic, the FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth.

In all the years I've been a consultant helping people learn about their medications, medical conditions, and etc. (not a doctor, or nurse, I do not diagnose, or prescribe anything!) I can't remember a year where a shortage hasn't occurred, and I've ended up having to explain this to confused, suffering people.

Inevitably, demand goes up, and the new yearly manufacturing/dispensing allotments don't meet the actual amount needed. I know this doesn't help resolve your problem, the only thing I can do is explain why it happens.

Have you tried other pharmacies in your area to see if any of them still have any in stock?
