Gabapentin And Electric Shock Therapy

my son (34) took 90 gabapentin (100mg) pills in a two day period. What are the side effects of this as he is also undergoing ECT treatment 3 days a week and he took that many pills before undergoing his 3rd treatment.

Your son is undergoing ETC three times a week!? May I ask why n what for. If he's never taken the medication before then he'll feel side effects such as drowsiness, nausea, dizziness, possible seizure (s), mood change, hostility OR extreme sociability. The list is too long to list here, but those are the major side effects. The half-life of the drug isn't very long, I believe 5-7 hrs...so it may have been out of his system by the time he went....

Anyone who's taken 90 tablets of Gabapentin in a two day period should probably call poison control immediately. I'd be very surprised if this option hasn't already been acted upon. Post #1 is right though about the possibility of experiencing serious side effects.

I think it should also be noted that the physicians running the Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) treatment should've also been made aware of this overdose; especially if it could interfere with the process in anyway, shape or form while he is under the general anesthesia; which is general protocol for this type of therapy.
