Flecainide And Hair Loss
(Newest replies first)

Have been on 50 mg Flecainide twice daily and 125 mcg Digoxin once daily for one year due to sporadic episodes of tachycardia and one incident of Afib that landed me in the hospital. My rhythm adjusted itself after 12 hours. I noticed an increase in hair loss a month or two after I started taking it. I thought it was due to stress levels several months previously because I had experienced hair loss in the past due to stress. That subsided and the hair would grow back but not entirely. However, it has been continually falling out an alarmingly steady pace since. I have seen my dermatologist who said everything seemed normal and to try rogaine. I just had bloodwork for several issues to see if this mystery can be solved and have not gotten the results. It dawned on me that the time frame coincided with when I started on these medications. I have now lost almost 50% of my hair. This is very stressful in itself. Has anyone else had this side effect?

Thank you! I am also taking a very low dose of Metropolol (12.5 mg/ 2x/day) and I am taking Eliquis but am taking 1/2 of it now (2.5 mg/ 2x/day). I also am slightly hypothyroid (have an appt in a month) and started back taking a small dose of my thyroid meds (have been off of them for a couple of years) to see if that might be the hair loss thing, but unfortunately it's too much thyroid for my body (having headaches, flushing, insomnia with it). It's weird that my hair texture is so different (thinner) and all of that, that I really feel like it's one of the meds.
Yes, hair loss can be a normal side effect of this medication, along with nausea, dizziness, headache, and dehydration.
Have you spoken to your doctor about trying a different medication?
Speechieme, what medications are you taking? I might be able to provide you with more information, if you can post back and be more specific.
I have been taking flecanide for about a year now, and have cut my dose in half (25 mg 2x/day) due to hair loss to see if it subsides. (I did have an ablation 7 months ago for Afib which is better now). My hair falls out like crazy and is thinner in texture (& more "fly-away" if that makes sense) than it used to be. I have also lost hair in other areas. I take a couple of other meds for my Afib (an anticoagulant and a beta blocker) so it is hard to figure out what causes the hair loss. Cutting the dose of flecanide does not seem t make a difference as it has been several months now since I cut it in half.
