Does Anyone Taking Lyrica Have Memory Loss? (Page 17) (Top voted first)

Updated

I have been on Lyrica for about 8 months now and I am having fantastic results. My dr is trying to increase my dosage and I have been doing it in 50 mg increments. I am up 100 more now in a month, for a total dosage of 400mg. I find that I have very bad recall and loss of my vocabulary during conversation. It eventually goes away, but I was wondering if anyone else has this? If it keeps up, I just may have to drop back down 50mg until I get used to it? That seemed to work that last time I had to raise it.BTW, I have nerve pain in my ribcage. (not caused by shingles)

I also had my dose increased from 50 mg to 100mg three times a day. Indeed, I
noticed blurred vision with the increase but it was my family that noticed the slurred speech and problems with my gait /balance. Although, I felt great! My nerve pain originates from L4-L-5 and S1, and finally it's was gone! Due to the side effects , unfortunately I had to stop taking Lyrica because I was being accused of drinking or ingesting something other then prescribed. I stopped taking Lyrica all at once which make me sick as could be for quite some time! So please, if your planning on reducing or stop taking Lyrica all together, I strongly suggest make a plan with your physician . Research is finding it can be worse than withdrawing from street drugs! The more research I did, the more concerned I became! Discontinuing Lyrica is very upsetting to me, it was the one drugs that worked! But if my family was noticing these side effects than I'm sure someone at work may have as well. Good luck and go slow!

Lyrica is controlling your fibromyalgia pain by gradual destroying the neural conductivity of your brain just like stopping the engine warning light on your car dash board by unplugging the computer but your brain will never be the same again after taking Lyrica . .

I've been sure that my memory and motivation problems are related to Lyrica, but haven't been able to do anything about it. I have activated trigger points all over my back from a pinched nerve in my neck. I can't work without the nerve pain relief. So Lyrica has taken all of my motivation, 1/2 my memory, and 1/2 my hair. I hate living this way!

Gabapentin gave me double vision so I couldn't drive. Cymbalta sent me to the ER with stomach pain so severe I thought I had pancreatitis. I'm out off options

I do, am trying to get off of it. I can't even remember how long I have been taking it but after what I have read hear, plan to maybe consult with an attorney. The list of side effects is a long one and I have just recently, in an effort to get off all of my RX's, I pretty much have them all-I have scarred skin from the sores, the depression, mood swings, aggression, panic attacks...as you know the list goes on

The higher doses are what get you! I had few side effects when I was taking 100mg, 2x a day. When I increased to 150 mg, all of the side effects started. My pain would indicate that I should up my dose again, but I refuse to do it. I have to function!

My pain specialist just sent a list of possible replacement to my primary care doc. I'll let you know if anything works.

Yes! I hated it! Its more short term, like names, and "oh what was i gonna say?" And appointments!

Hi, I was started at 150mg twice a day. I went to bed, woke up a few hours later feeling the most euphoric I've ever felt in my life. Like "all is well in my world" - I spent 2 years like that - when in reality, all was NOT well in my world. In addition to my false sense of reality, I was stumbling into walls, had word finding problems, and I'm pretty sure my cognitive skills in general have tanked. 3-4 years later, I'm no further ahead than when I started. Increased numbness, tremor, and very poor balance.

If we want Lyrica investigated as a bad drug, I think our only chance is to get a form from the Attorney General. He covers a lot from bad drugs to abuse of the elderly. It may take some time, however. But we might get Lyrica off the market. Then maybe the legal suits can happen and or civil suits. Nick does your country have a government official similar to our Attorney General who looks into the health care like drugs abuse and neglect of the elderly? If so contact him and I think all of us should contact our Attorney General and pass the word on other web sites.

Thanks Graham , would like to know the dose you were on for the 6 months you were taking Lyrica , my son started of with 75mg x 2 per day , then when it was increased to 4x 75 mg he looked very ill so we gradually weaned him off lyrica but was never the same person after that , his memory was shot and his ability to write brilliant essays and master complex mathematics were all gone , Lyrica also triggered a very severe anxiety disorder that he had no sigh of before he took lyrica , this has been a nightmare of magnitude far worse than the whiplash pain the lyrica was meant to treat , his all up time on Lyrica was around 4 months but his side effects continue more than 5 years later .....to see an only son suffer like this has been heart breaking ...

Hi, I've been on this drug for almost 2 years and my recall and word loss has become much worse. It stops me from taking part in conversations because I invariably end up feeling like an idiot. Over the 2 years I have cut down from 400mg daily to 100mg. It's knocking my confidence what with word loss and weight gain. I can't reduce any more, the pain won't allow me.

Hi I , my son took a similar dose of Lyrica for closer to six months , has not had a dose of Lyrica for over five years , is now 22.5 years of age ,plays his piano and guitar as a means of therapy and i can honestly say still suffers from cognitive impairment , he is no where near the sharpness of mind and memory and intelligence he had before taking Lyrica .

Thanks I , i greatly appreciate your efforts and time spent helping us , look forward to seeing what you come up with , we are keen to try just about anything ,as i just wont to see my son back to normal , he was prescribed Lyrica before his 17th birthday which is below the recommended start age for this dreadful drug and suspect that is the reason lyrica has hit him especially hard as the brain is still maturing into early 20s , it has been so long now that i would regard a return to normal a miracle .

I too have been taking lyrica @ 75mg x 3 or maybe x4 a day, as needed. It was prescribed by a physiatrist after sev'l years of searching for relief for lumbar & cervical spine pain with numbness , pain, burning & tingling in my legs, hips, sacro-iliac, deep tissue or bone pain in fingers, thighs, shins, excruciating pain in my neck, scapula, back of my skull. This condition kept me continuously out of commission, in bed w/ Colpacs, muscle relaxants & opiates. I was not living, I was surviving. Barely. Lyrica together w/ 20, now 30mg Cymbalta seemed like a dream come Tru; I had somewhat of a life back. I later had Cauda Equinas syndrome surgery, laminectomy @ L3-5, another miracle. So while I'm doing pretty well on that score, I have noticed more difficulty w word recall & other memory issues, but not as serious as the MIld Cognitive Dysfunction I experienced w estrogen deficiency, for which I am now being treated successfully.

I am upset about weight gain, 40 # in 1 yr., 10" added to my waist. It not only looks terrible, none of my clothes fit, but it is terribly uncomfortable, bloating, sometimes I feel like I can't breathe. (Also hv COPD.) I look 5 mo pregnant. I am 65.

I have read a lot of comments on memory issues and 30-40# wt gains, but hav not read same about gabapentin/Neurontin. Should I switch, and how do I find someone qualified? My physiatrist who initially prescribed Lyrica, Cymbalta, is long gone, my PC is not a specialist in neuropathy or fibromyalgia or the pregabalins, or pain management for that matter, neither is my neurosurgeon. The physical medicine doctors at the Stanford Spine Clinic are morons, and I refuse to go back. The Pain Clinic there does prescribe gabapentin, but they have no experience w Lyrica. So I need to find a doctor who is familiar with these meds. Any suggestions?

The only way we can get Lyrica off the market is to find as many doctors as we can find who do not prescribe it because of the side effects. I think our best chance is with psychiatrists. I say this because I was on Chantrix to stop smoking from my family doctor. The psychiatrist took me off because he saw too many people in the psych wards who had been on Chantrix. They might be able to help. I have memory loss, mostly short term since getting off cold turkey in 2006. In 2007 I lost my job at a hospital where I had worked for 29 years because of the side effects of Lyrica.

Thank you Graham for your comments and am happy to hear that you have recovered all of your cognitive power after taking Lyrica , i am interested to find out how long and at what dose you were taking lyrica as i believe that the length of time and strength of dose has a great bearing on how much damage lyrica causes .
